POSITION:  1.0 FTE Remedial Reading Specialist position

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Reading Specialist supports students, teachers, instruction assistants, and administrators by providing guidance, leadership, expertise, and instruction to improve literacy achievement for all students. 
 
The specific duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
 
1.  Facilitate team meetings to identify students in need of academic assistance, diagnose and analyze their needs, and prescribe an appropriate program of intervention.
2. Administer formal and informal assessment to identify specific student skill deficits and strengths.
3. Assist principal and teacher in analyzing student assessment data from district and State testing.
4. Model effective instructional strategies in classrooms across all content areas.
5. Provide instructional intervention for Tier 2 and Tier 3 students and support classroom teachers in designing and implementing intervention lessons for classroom intervention blocks.
6. Create materials and demonstration lessons to strengthen the use of research based best practices and language arts instructional interventions in the classroom.
7. Collaborate with classroom teachers to determine the instructional levels of students, and appropriate instructional materials and grouping for instruction.
8. Serve on the school’s SRBI team, and participate on the planning and placement team process as needed.
9. Identify technology appropriate for reading/language arts instruction.
10. Collaborate with the professional staff to ensure continuity between regular education programs and special areas/programs such as EL and special education.
11. Oversee the work of instructional assistants to ensure that students are receiving appropriate language arts instruction and interventions.
12. Perform other related responsibilities that support improving literacy achievement in the district.
13. Assist in creating Language Arts budget and advise principal in finalizing budget in areas of responsibility.
14. Participate in Language Arts Curriculum Committee.
15. Work closely with principal or designee in the supervision of Title 1, etc., programs in accordance with the State and Federal guidelines.
16. Design and implement professional learning opportunities around reading programs, interventions, and instructional strategies.

Job Goal: Under the supervision of the Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Technology, provide expert-level hardware, software, and networking support to ensure a high-functioning, consistent, cyber-secure online and computer-based infrastructure for Portland Public Schools
Essential Responsibilities - Under the Direction and Supervision of the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology and in close collaboration with other IT staff:
• Manage all hardwares, configurations, and related aspects of the district’s network infrastructure.
• Manage and keep current district inventory (including age/end-of-life expectancy) for all district hardware and devices.
• Work with the Director to develop and maintain a hardware and device replenishment cycle within district budget capacity.
• Diagnose and lead the resolution of any issues related to infrastructure, servers, and local and wide area networks.
• Execute server hardware and software installation, configuration, upgrades, backups, and migrations as needed.
• Perform network administration tasks at the district and school levels.
• Monitor district’s cybersecurity across all systems and configurations and at all end-user levels’ provide related training as necessary.
• Develop and implement response plans when cybersecurity threats surface and/or when cybersecurity is breached.
• Manage all network security systems for LAN/WAN, telecommunications, and voice systems.       
• Maintain and modify, as needed, all security for the networks and computer workstations.
• Manage security systems to ensure that all applications are functional and secure; ensure adherence to data privacy laws.
• Develop and maintain relationships with expert-level consultants to assist with any and all needs beyond local capacity and/or expertise.
• Serve as lead technician and/or consultant contact for any issues related to district phone systems, copy machines, and digital signage.
• Provide support for instructional and administrative technology and resolve any interruptive issues that arise for end-users.
• Provide field specific knowledge in the planning, implementation, and functional use of technology.
• Co-manage budget procedures and allocations to obtain quotes and to make strategic, appropriate, and necessary purchases. 
• Attend professional learning sessions to stay current with field-specific trends, emerging technologies, and necessary expertise.
• Provide assistance to the district Data Specialist as needed and/or directed.
• Provide assistance to Level I IT Technicians as needed and/or directed.

Qualifications
• Associates Degree (Bachelor’s degree preferred) in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technology field
• Minimum of three years hands-on, troubleshooting experience supporting workstations PCs, laptops, peripherals and application software in a networked environment (preferably in an educational setting)
• Expert-level knowledge of network configurations, hardwares, and all aspects of infrastructure.
• Advanced knowledge of cybersecurity and data privacy practices, protocols, threats, safeguards, and legal requirements
• Experience working with local-area networks, PC based applications, recent generations of Windows, Google OS, Mac OS, Microsoft Office Suite, iOS, Android, and various social media platforms in a school environment.
• Experience with Chromebook Device Management and Google OS.
• Experience working with SMARTBoards, Desktops, Projectors, and other classroom-based instructional hardwares.
• Experience implementing and administering Microsoft Windows 2xxx, Microsoft Server 2xxx, Active directory, Office 2000/XP, anti-virus software and spam blocking software
 
• Experience maintaining Internet connectivity, Cisco Routers and Cisco firewall.
• Working knowledge of network terminology and infrastructure such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, IIS and BGP/EIGRP
• Minimum A+ and MCSE certifications
• Skilled in precise, organized, and accurate device inventory practices
• Can demonstrate ability to take a customer-service oriented approach when working with end-users of lesser expertise
 
• Can collaborate effectively with diverse groups of people to include: district and school personnel, community, and vendors
• Can demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with staff and students.
• Can demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.  
• Can sustain a routine that includes physical activity associated with a technology office environment and that necessitates the movement of moderately-heavy equipment and travel between schools and across the district using own vehicle (mileage reimbursement).
• Can identify skills gaps in own expertise and seek out professional development to strengthen expertise.
• As an essential employee, available to respond to emergencies that happen outside of work hours, including nights, weekends, vacations, etc.
Salary:             $68,000 - $75,000
Work Year:     Twelve months
