K-12 Physical Education/Health Teacher SUPERVISOR: Building Principal
JOB SUMMARY: To teach and have all students learn the taught curriculum and meet the mission of the school district. QUALIFICATIONS:
Certification/License:
- Wyoming State Certification as a Physical Education/Health Teacher or as required for position.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Experience: - Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level and/or subject is a plus.
Education:
- Possess all certificates required for the State of Wyoming.
- Possess at a minimum, a Bachelor’s Degree.
- Continue to pursue graduate level classes for professional growth.
Knowledge, Skills and Mental Ability:
- Possess and demonstrate an understanding of a broad general knowledge of all fitness areas with specific ability to perform each of the physical activities taught.
- Possess and demonstrate an understanding of group dynamics and interpersonal skills.
- Possess knowledge of physiological, psychological, emotional, and educational behavioral development of children.
- Possess and demonstrate developmentally appropriate management skills which include discipline as well as record keeping and assessment abilities.
- Possess and demonstrate technological and computer skills.
- Possess and demonstrate problem solving, imagination, patience, reasoning, creativity, judgment, and analytical abilities.
- Demonstrate the ability to teach swimming.
- Demonstrate competence in planning and implementing appropriate learning experiences for children with various activity levels.
- Demonstrate competence in recognizing the availability of and process involved in the purchase, care and use of specialized facilities, equipment, and supplies needed for a physical education program.
- Demonstrate competence in safety and emergency care education related to student populations, including CPR and first aid certification.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT AND HOURS OF DUTY: As per district policy.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans and implements a program of study that meets individual needs, interests, and abilities within the PCSD curriculum and objectives.
- Implements curriculum objectives and goals using effective teaching techniques and materials appropriate in aPhysical Educational program.
- Writes weekly lesson plans describing daily learning experiences correlated to district goals and objectives.
- Monitors and assesses student progress and provides feedback on a regular basis to students and parent/guardians, and appropriate educational staff.
- Communicates goals/objectives to students in a well-planned, organized manner and in clear, concise terms.
- Assists administration in implementing all policies, vision, mission, philosophy, regulations, and rules of PCSD.
- Creates educational experiences to provide students with opportunities to develop potential in self-esteem, personal-social adjustment, decision-making, appropriate life leisure/recreational abilities, and other life skills.
- Respects the dignity of each student as an individual and attempts to gain an adequate understanding of his/her needs, interests, abilities, aptitudes, temperament, and environmental influences, as a basis on which to meet his/her needs, and to treat him/her with fairness and courtesy.
- Communicates concerns and ideas with colleagues, parents, and students in a positive, solution-oriented manner.
- Assumes professional and personal responsibility for the management and progress of the classes under his/her authority, direction and supervision.
- Maintains accurate, complete, legible records as required by law, PCSD policy, and administrative regulation.
- Attends to the safety and well-being of students in class and related activities.
- Attends parent meetings, staff meetings and all appropriate meetings.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to sit, stand and walk without fatigue and discomfort.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds and push or pull 50-75 pounds.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be determined in accordance with provisions of the evaluation policy and procedures of the Board of Education.
