Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Participate and take an active role in developing the academic and personal strength of students
- Learn and practice AVID instructional strategies to develop students’ writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading (WICOR) skills.
- Assist students in any subject area, by being familiar with students’ textbooks and materials and AVID classroom resources.
- Work with students at all phases of the of the writing process, such as brainstorming, clustering, read arounds, revisions, and editing.
- Assist in teaching study skills and other skills necessary for college preparation.
- Communicate regularly with the AVID coordinator/teacher regarding student progress and areas of concern and confer with the teacher about future tutorial plans.
- Assure that students complete work in a timely manner.
- Establish and maintain rapport with students, while upholding the tone and atmosphere of the classroom set by the elective teacher(s).
- Set an example of personal excellence and high expectation for all AVID students to follow.
- Participate in all required trainings, professional development sessions, and meetings.
- Adhere to district/site policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the AVID Director.
Qualifications and Education Requirements - Preferred college student (or college graduate) with a minimum of 2.5 GPA.
- Must have a strong academic background, evidenced by college transcript.
- Effective communicative skills with students and adults.
- Passionate belief in the ability of all students to graduate college-ready.
Preferred Skills - Knowledge of basic subjects taught including pre-algebra, algebra grammar, spelling, language, reading and writing process.
- Must have the ability to follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, students, and staff.
- Learn and practice AVID strategies and methodology.
- Maintain a consistent, positive, and professional rapport with students.
