    Position Title: Special Education Instructional Coach FLSA Status:  Exempt
    Department: Curriculum and Instruction Reports to: Director of Teaching & Learning
    Location: Central Office Beginning Scale District Administration (F)
    Position Type: Full Time Beginning Salary: $59,534-$80,243
    Description of Position:  The Special Education Instructional Coach provides systems-based coaching and leadership to support instructional improvement for all students.  This K–12 position supports both general and special educators through continuous improvement coaching cycles grounded in the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) model, while guiding collaborative teams using the four DuFour PLC questions.  A critical component of this role includes the use of visible data, student voice, and collaborative problem-solving to close learning gaps and increase equitable outcomes.
     
     
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    COACHING & IMPROVEMENT CYCLES:
    •       Facilitate coaching cycles using the PDSA model.
    •       Facilitate teacher implementation of visible data tracking tools (e.g., data walls, goal trackers, progress charts) to promote student ownership and instructional responsiveness.
    •       Guide educators through the continuous improvement process, helping them set goals, monitor progress, and adjust instruction using data and student feedback.
    •       Provide onboarding, mentoring, and support to new special education staff.
    •       Provide data-informed feedback to improve teaching and student performance.
    •       Collaborate with teams to design weekly instructional schedules that include 30-50-75-minute resource periods and ensure pull-out services align with IEP goals, core instruction, and least restrictive environment (LRE) guidance
    INCLUSIVE & SPECIALIZED SUPPORT:
    •       Collaborate with special education staff to monitor student progress and co-plan interventions.
    •       Model and share strategies for inclusive practices,  Access for All 2.0 and behavior supports.
    •       Guide and support teachers in scaffolding grade-level standards for students with significant skill deficits
    •       Deliver professional learning aligned with MTGR indicators and district improvement priorities.
    •       Support teachers in  analyzing and identifying trends in students data 
    SYSTEMS ALIGNMENT & LEADERSHIP:
    •       Reinforce consistent use of instructional frameworks, visible data, and student reflection.
    •       Ensure instructional practices align with IDEA regulations and district special education frameworks.
    •       Collaborate with case managers to ensure alignment between classroom instruction and IEP accommodations.
    •       Support teachers in designing specially designed instruction (SDI) that meets students’ individual IEP goals.
    •       Support the delivery of rigorous, differentiated instruction aligned to MCCRS and students’ IEP goals.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    •       Valid state teaching certification in general and special education (required).
    •       Minimum of 5 years successful classroom teaching (at least 2 in special education preferred).
    •       Experience facilitating coaching, PLCs, or collaborative team structures.
    •       Experience with data analysis, MTSS, or improvement science preferred.

    PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS 
    •       Expertise in inclusive instructional practices, accommodations, and special education supports.
    •       Ability to facilitate continuous improvement cycles and data-driven instructional planning.
    •       Knowledge of special education law and student-centered supports.
    •       Skilled in coaching, reflection, and team facilitation.
    •       Able to manage multiple priorities and support various school teams.
