REQUIREMENTS: Must meet the following requirements to move forward in the screening process:
Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent; and
(a) Have received a qualifying score on the Education Testing Service paraeducator assessment; or
(b) Hold an associates degree or higher from an accredited college or university; or
(c) Have earned seventy-two quarter credits or forty-eight semester credits at the one hundred level or higher at an accredited college or university; or
(d) Have completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.
SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT:
Provide one-on-one support as a Bus Aide by assisting the driver and ensuring a safe, well-monitored environment for all students while riding the bus to school. Additinally, work under the supervision of certificated staff in the classroom to provide instructional or other appropriate services, working one-on-one with assigned student.

- Promote collaborative decision-making and consensus among groups of individuals with diverse interests, values, and needs and inspire and support staff in carrying out District and Department goals.
- Participate as a member in meetings, workshops, and seminars that may involve a wide range of issues such as goals attainment, problem resolution, and District operations for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job duties.
- Recommend solutions to a wide variety of issues for the purpose of addressing the short and long-term needs of the District.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Applicable AA degree or equivalent work experience and/or training preferred.
- Ability to relate to students, staff and parents.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to utilize appropriate strategies and techniques to provide effective instructional support.
- Work Skills Assessments: Achieve minimum acceptable levels/scores in reading, writing, math and technology assessments.
- First Aid/CPR Certified
PERFORMANCE, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist student with social, emotional, and/or behaviorial issues while boarding, riding and exiting the school bus.
- Promote opportunities for cooperative student interaction as appropriate to the assigned work area.
- Provide for trhe safety of students at assigned work areas by enforcing the rules for the site.
- Assisting students with toileting including catherization
- Feedings, oral and tube feeding (excluding the non-oral administration of medication)
- Suctioning
- Transferring non-ambulatory students
- Physical restraint in accordance with the aversive therapy plan
- Diabetic health plan management (with evidence of completion of PDA training)
- Work with students individually or in small groups in a variety of content areas/subjects.
- Assist staff, as appropriate, in the design, implementation, and evaluation of instructional programs and student progress.
- Assist in student supervision and discipline.
- File papers, run errands, operate duplication machines, attendance, minor clerical duties.
- Lead group discussions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED candidates will have experience working with students in a school classroom setting.

Work Year 180 days per year plus paid holidays that fall within the school year
Hours 7.25 hours paid per day plus half-hour unpaid duty free lunch
Schedule 6:30 am - 2:15 pm (schedule subject to change to meet student needs)
6:30 am - 7:15 am Ride the AM bus for student pickup
7:15 am - 2:15 pm One-on-One Paraeducator support
Salary 2024-25 PSE Salary Schedule A**
High Needs Paraeducator I ($24.86 - $27.22 DOE)
High Needs Paraeducator III* ($27.29 - $30.29 DOE

* Higher pay rate for:
- Satisfactory completion of Educational Para-Professional Apprenticeship Program or
- Accredited AA Degree (official transcripts are required) or
- Seventy-two (72) quarter credits or forty-eight (48) semester credits (official transcripts are required)
EVALUATION: Performance is evaluated by the building principal with input from certificated staff and transportation supervisor.
