POSITION: Director of Student Services
EDUCATION
Master’s Degree in Special Education
Fully approved or eligible to obtain temporary approval as a Director of Special Education.
Current MDE Administrator Certification with either an Elementary or Secondary Administrator K-12 (ES) or Central Office Endorsement (CO) is required
Endorsement in at least one area of Special Education.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 5 years of K-12 teaching or administration experience required
Experience working in a variety of school settings is preferred
Familiar with state and federal laws/regulations pertaining to special education
JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Student Services will oversee the school district's Special Education programs and Section 504, ensuring that students with diverse learning needs receive comprehensive, individualized support. This role involves leading and managing special education staff, developing and implementing programs to enhance student success, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and collaborating with school administrators, educators, and families to foster an inclusive learning environment. The Director will also monitor program effectiveness, advocate for students' needs, and provide strategic direction to continuously improve services for students with disabilities across the district.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide leadership, management, and support for the delivery of special education programs and services and Section 504 accommodations to ensure a free and appropriate public education for students with disabilities within Berkley School District.
Provide direction, coordinate activities, and remain current in practices related to the implementation of the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE).
Provide leadership in the implementation of efforts to improve performance of students with disabilities.
Develop and facilitate professional development. Demonstrate continuing awareness of effective instructional techniques.
Direct and support the Early On, K-12, and Adult Transition programs.
Recommend for hire, supervise and evaluate professional and support personnel serving special needs students.
Monitor staff caseloads and student progress.
Work cooperatively with building administrators to ensure quality building level programs.
Develop and administer the special education budget.
Member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet.
Participate in state and county organizations for the improvement of services to students.
Title IX Co-Compliance Officer.
OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Experience and knowledge in the areas of MTSS, crisis prevention/risk assessment, and SEL resources
SALARY: Commensurate with Education and Experiences, Comprehensive Benefits Package which includes medical, dental, vision and life insurance
WORK SCHEDULE: 52 weeks, 40 hours per week
START DATE: July 1, 2025
