    Qualifications:
     
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • CDL License, Group B with P, S and Air Brake Endorsements is required.
    • Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience in school transportation operation required; experience beyond five years desired.
    • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to supervise, evaluate, and direct the work of others.
    • Demonstrated experience managing pupil transportation systems including development of time schedules, dispatching, field trip assignments, fleet service records, etc.
    • Demonstrated experience with computer assisted student routing software preferred; demonstrated ability to design efficient bus routes required.
    • Knowledge of student transportation laws, rules and regulations required.
    • Demonstrated experience in formulating and managing transportation budgets.
    • Knowledge of school bus maintenance, garage operations and bus replacement strategies preferred.
    • Proficient with office software and applications, including, but not limited to, Google Applications, Microsoft Office, and Business Plus.
    • Exceptions to the above, as deemed necessary and appropriate
     
    Duties and Responsibilities:
     
    • Plan, implement and direct a pupil transportation system within the policies of the Board of Education that has student safety as its primary focus.
    • Coordinate, implement and maintain bus routes and schedules; evaluate bus stop locations, and road and weather conditions, and adjust bus routes accordingly; organize transportation services for trips, special events and athletic contests.
    • Interpret transportation procedures and regulations to public and staff, establish and maintain good public relations program.
    • Coordinate student transportation activities with school officials, department heads, and other appropriate groups/individuals.
    • Supervise the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of all transportation department personnel.
    • Direct and supervise transportation employees, including:  drivers, paras, mechanics, and office staff.
    • Ensure all district vehicles and transportation equipment are properly maintained for safe use and adequately prepared for state inspections.
    • Develop, forecast and recommend transportation department budget requirements.
    • Maintain personnel records and records for preparation of state and local reports, such as inventories, pupils transported, route mileage, time and trip records, traffic accidents and other reports; complete required annual reports such as SE-4107 (School Bus Inventory) and SE-4094 (Transportation Expenditure Report).
    • Serve as a member of negotiating team for transportation contracts.  Participate in grievance hearings and any other bargaining unit issues as needed.
    • Review, investigate and respond to parental and guardian requests regarding bus stops, routing, student behavior management and driver concerns.
    • Evaluate all elements of transportation program on a continuing basis and make recommendations for improvement; assist in the formation and development of policies, procedures and programs to assure an economical, safe and efficient department.
    • Other duties as may be assigned
     
    Other qualifications are also considered in the final selection of a person to fill this position.
