HVAC & Pool Technician – Lamphere High School
Location: The Lamphere Schools – Lamphere High School/District-wide when needed
Pay: $25-$28 hour/plus benefits based on experience
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 6am to 2:30pm - overtime expected

The Lamphere Schools is seeking a HVAC & Pool Technician to work in the Maintenance, Operations, & Transportation (MOT) Department. The HVAC & Pool Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and ensuring the efficient operation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, boilers, and swimming pool equipment within the school district. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, comfortable, and compliant environment for students, staff, and visitors at Lamphere High School. This position will spend a considerable amount of time at Lamphere High School maintaining the boiler/chiller system and pool but this position (on occasion) will also be expected to perform inspections and maintenance at all other District facilities as well, when necessary. This role ensures that all climate control and mechanical systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with relevant regulations. The technician also monitors and maintains swimming pool water quality, filtration, and heating systems to provide a safe and comfortable environment for users. Must be able to work flexible hours when required, respond to emergencies when necessary, and complete scheduled maintenance as directed. Must have the ability to quickly learn how to troubleshoot new and old equipment and respond to urgent maintenance needs of any kind. The HVAC & Pool Technician will maintain records, coordinate with vendors, and assist the MOT Director in the planning and budgeting of future District facility replacements and facility upgrades.
Qualifications & Skills
• High school diploma or GED required; technical certification in HVAC, boilers, or pool operations preferred.
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in HVAC, boiler maintenance, or pool operations.
• Knowledge of heating, cooling, and boiler systems, as well as mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
• Familiar with Direct Digital Controls (DDC) operations and computer skills desirable to identify and diagnose any system malfunctions.
• Pool Operator Certification (CPO) or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Familiarity with OSHA safety regulations and environmental standards.
• Ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces and tunnels, and operate power tools.
Key Responsibilities
HVAC System Maintenance & Repair:
• Inspect, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including boilers (some steam), air handlers, chillers and cooling tower, unit ventilators, and rooftop units.
• Diagnose and resolve HVAC related issues, including electrical and mechanical failures.
• Replace air filters, belts, and other HVAC components as needed.
• Monitor and adjust climate control systems (Metasys) for optimal energy efficiency and staff/student comfort.
Boiler System Maintenance:
• Perform regular inspections, cleaning, and servicing of boilers and associated equipment.
• Maintain proper water levels, pressure, and chemical treatment in boiler systems. Lamphere High School has 3 steam boilers in its boiler plant.
• Identify and repair leaks, faulty valves, and other boiler-related malfunctions.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and report any deficiencies to supervisors.
Pool Maintenance & Operations:
• Maintain and monitor the school’s swimming pool system, including pumps, filtration, and chemical balance.
• Test and adjust water chemistry to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
• Troubleshoot and repair pool heating and circulation systems.
• Maintain records of water testing, maintenance, and inspections.
General Mechanical & Facilities Support:
• Assist with other mechanical systems, including plumbing, refrigeration, and electrical troubleshooting.
• Respond to maintenance requests and emergencies in a timely manner.
• Keep accurate maintenance logs and perform routine inspections.
• Ensure compliance with safety procedures and regulatory codes.
• On occasion and when necessary, provide added maintenance support to any/all District facilities.
• Required to assist with snow removal operations.
Work Conditions
• Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments, sometimes in extreme temperatures.
• May require climbing ladders, lifting heavy objects, and working in tight spaces.
• Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for emergency repairs.
