2. New Jersey Department of Education Supervisor Certificate, OR New Jersey Department of Education Standard Principal Certificate.
3. New Jersey Department of Education Certificate in Supervisor (0106) OR 0200 Principal Standard (0200). 
4. Minimum of three (3) years successful experience in teaching the related content area or related experience.
BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Facilitates the growth and development of teachers working collaboratively with peers.
2. Assists teachers in alignment, articulation, integration, and implementation of curriculum through and across grade levels.
3. Teaches demonstration lessons in classrooms and serves as a peer coach and mentor for staff in reciprocal relationships.
4. Provides teachers the opportunity to develop effective instructional techniques, strategies and professional behaviors.
5. Knowledge of New Jersey Student Learning Standards for curriculum, assessment and instruction.
6. Assumes responsibility to attend and participate in ongoing professional development activities.
7. Provides teachers with the opportunity to enhance knowledge of content and management skills.
8. Analyzes and communicates student assessment data, and makes program recommendations based on the analysis of available data.
9. Provides reports on the progress of program initiatives.
10. Performs other duties consistent with specific contractual terms of employment as assigned by the Principal.
11. Monitors implementation of the school district’s approved content program in accordance with the needs of students.
12. Assumes responsibility to attend and participate in in-service workshops.

BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 I. Management and Coaching of Instructional Staff 
1. Observes, coaches, and evaluates assigned faculty and provides ongoing professional development for targeted improvement in identified growth areas.
2. Completes all Teach NJ Educator Effectiveness activities (IPDP/CAP, observations, and evaluations) according to district’s guidelines.
3. Assumes the orientation and mentor responsibilities of all novice teachers.
4. Monitors the implementation and/or the expansion of school-based CTE programs.
5. Knowledge of New Jersey Student Learning Standards for curriculum, assessment and instruction.
6. Ensures that all CTE teachers are properly certified. 
7. Ensures that all students have opportunities to obtain industry certifications associate with School-based CTE programs. 
 
 
II. Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment 
1. Serves as the leader and expert in the area of Career Technical Education.
2. Supports School level implementation of CTE curriculum guides. 
3. Ensures assigned faculty is properly equipped with district approved curriculum resources.
4. Reviews and approves lesson plans, assessments, and grades, and certifies alignment to the State’s Standards with articulation, integration, and implementation of district approved curriculum through and across grade levels and content areas.
5. Conducts model lessons that demonstrate best practices and differentiated techniques for exemplary implementation of various learning objectives.
6. Collaborates with Teaching and Learning in the research and implementation of best practices in curriculum, instruction, and student assessments.
7. Prepares, analyzes, and communicates quarterly student achievement data reports and makes program recommendations according to student needs.
8. Collaborates with the Principal and Vice Principal(s) in adhering to the secondary course sequence and scheduling guidelines for college and career readiness. 
9. Assumes teaching responsibilities in areas identified by the principal, when necessary. 
 
III. Student Life and Family Support 
1. Promotes and leads a positive school-wide climate and culture for students and staff that results in school and class pride while fostering student academic achievement. 
2. Engages families and community stakeholders to actively participate in the vision and mission of the school and district.
3. Advances gifted and at-promise students with supports to their academic and social and emotional needs by facilitating access to interventions and student activities that result in academic achievement and student leadership. 
4. Monitors implementation of Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Prevention/ Early Intervention (I&RS) action steps to ensure full compliance with State and Federal regulations. 
5. Recommends and monitors the implementation of positive behavior supports to ensure a positive school-wide climate and scholarly culture that result in school-wide academic achievement. 
 
III. Organizational Leadership 
1. Establishes and executes organizational systems and strategies to monitor student, faculty, school, and district goals. 
2. Develops and monitors strategies for high level collaboration among faculty and staff.
3. Communicates effectively and maintains a positive disposition in all circumstances to ensure an outcome that promotes student academic achievement, faculty and staff professional development, and school-wide success. 
4. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.
5. Leads/facilitates CTE professional development for instructional staff.

1. Salary: Compensation is competitive and based on experience.  The salary range for this position is $92,000 - $128,000.

Qualifications

3. Assists classroom teacher in the delivery of an effective instructional program
4. Work with individual hearing impaired students or small groups of hearing impaired student to reinforce learning of material or skills introduced by the teacher 
5. Guide independent study, enrichment work and remedial work assigned by the teacher to the student(s) with hearing loss.
6. Model social strategies to encourage interaction between individuals who use sign language and those who do not.
7. For those with the appropriate certification, performs oral interpretation; present spoken messages utilizing easily read, clear mouth movements, orally repeat the spoken message of the Deaf or hard of hearing individual to the hearing individual, if necessary
8. Interpret for individual or small groups of students and staff members with auditory disabilities in the classroom, field trips or at assembly programs
9. Assist the teacher of the deaf and supervisor of the auditory impairments program in exploring and identifying the communication needs of students with hearing loss 
10. Provide assistance to the instructional leader in the appropriate use and care of classroom amplification systems which allow auditory access to those students capable of using residual hearing
11. Report the malfunction/inappropriate use of such equipment to the appropriate professionals for repair/reinstruction pertaining to said equipment
12. Assist students with hearing loss to master the use of amplification technology (personal hearing aids, personal & classroom  assistive listening devices) and to  independently advocate for the appropriate use of classroom accommodations
13. Assist with the supervision of deaf and hard of hearing students during emergency drills, assemblies and field trips
14. Read and adhere to the Registry of interpreter for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct.
15. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school
16. Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines
17. Uphold and enforces school rules, administrative regulations and Board of Education policies

BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Develops a comprehensive health record on each new student that registers for school including an appropriate health history.  The information contained therein includes identification data, pre-natal, neo-natal and early development history; disease experiences; social and family history of parents and siblings; immunization data in accordance with the requirements of the State of New Jersey; and notes and advice or referrals discussed with the parent/guardian.
2.    Performs routine screenings of vision and hearing, weighing and measuring, and blood pressure and visual dental check.  When deviation from the norm is detected, the certified school nurse is responsible for referring the student and parent to the appropriate practitioner or agency for follow-up, and documenting such activities.
3.    Interprets the findings of the physical examination to parents, teacher and child (on his level) to motivate the student to take an interest and develop a responsibility for his own health.  Where physical defects are detected, assists the parent in contacting the available professional resources for diagnosis and treatment.
4.    Provides emergency medical care for all employees and arranges for care and follow-up at an appropriate emergency room or at the facility designated by the district.
5.    Counsels parents, teachers and students concerning medical and health related information.  Instructs teaches and other staff regarding ‘the signs and symptoms of diseases of individual students that would indicate that they need immediate health services.
6.    Conducts tuberculin screening programs on staff and students as mandated by the New Jersey State Department of Health and Education.
7.    Reviews every medical record annually to provide information to parents and administration concerning the immunization status of all school students as is required by law.
8.    Provide input into health education programs by being the health resource person in the school. The certified school nurse may actively participate in the health and in-service educational instruction for students and their parents.
9.    Informs and interprets for the child study team all medical and or other findings on the NPS children that will enable them to better understand the child in order that he may be properly placed and attain a level of achievement consistent with his abilities.
10.    Assists in planning and maintaining a safe and healthful school environment.
11.    Confers with representatives of community agencies in matters pertaining to family and community health.
12.    Dispenses medication prescribed by a physician in keeping with the current guidelines set forth by the Medical Director.  Provides nursing care as deemed necessary by the child’s health condition.
13.    Serves on various committees within the school as is deemed necessary.
14.    Administers prescribed treatments and ensures that prescribed measures are carried out.
15.    May be requested to fulfill any nursing function within the scope and practice of the New Jersey Nurse Practice Act.
16.    Performs related duties as assigned.
17.    Performs other duties consistent with specific contractual terms of employment as assigned by the Director or Chief Academic Officer or designee.

DEFINITION:

2. Focusing school administrators on student outcomes and teacher quality while assisting with management of school resources, including identifying appropriate additional resources when necessary to meet the instructional needs of school.
3. Working with school administrators to establish specific and targeted student performance goals and metrics.
4. Supporting school administrators with implication and management of required panels and committees under the NTU labor agreement (e.g., School Improvement Panel, Curriculum Committee, Framework Evaluation Committee, School Leadership Council, Professional Learning Community, etc.).
5. Designing and delivering professional development opportunities for SLT school administrators to enhance knowledge and skills in instructional leadership and evaluation of teacher quality. 
6. Provides technical assistance to school administrators and teachers.
7. Conducting regular formal and informal classroom walk-throughs aligned to student achievement and strategic goals.
8. Evaluation of teaching staff, as necessary.
9. Assists with daily school operations, including managing school-based schedules, coordinating events, and maintaining records as directed by the School Leadership Team.

DEFINITION:

The Confidential Special Assistant of Operations will serve as a liaison between the Central Office, Principals, and their School Leadership Team as well as other Department Leaders to ensure that students receive outstanding non-instructional support and services in their school.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Confidential Special Assistant of Operations will support the work of the School Leadership Team by:
• Assists with daily school operations, including managing school-based schedules, coordinating events, and maintaining records as directed by the School Leadership Team.
• Serves as a primary point of contact for parents, students, and staff regarding district issues.
• Responding to inquiries, resolving school-based issues, and providing summaries of information as requested by the School Leadership Team.
• Spending a minimum of 75% of work time in schools supporting School Leadership Teams with financial, managerial and operational needs.
• Troubleshoots operational issues by identifying solutions and implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Supports school leaders to maintain accurate data and up-to-date records, including student information, attendance, and disciplinary data for the schools in assigned School Leadership Team.
• Serves as liaison between school leaders with operational departments including, budgeting, purchasing, human resource services, facilities, security and safety as well as inventory management, ensuring compliance with district policies and procedures.
• Supports the implementation of district-based policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Leads or participates in special projects and initiatives as directed by leaders.
• Facilitates the acquisition of resources for schools related to district initiatives, and ensuring alignment with budgetary goals.
• Assisting in planning and managing the implementation of the district’s summer school programs for the summer season.

DEFINITION: Under direction, visits schools and homes to promote school attendance, investigates absences, and determines causes of absence or delinquency; does other related duties as required. The Attendance Counselor works closely with the principal and support staff to implement the most appropriate course of action to improve student attendance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conducts a needs assessment of the school’s previous year’s attendance and establishes a school attendance improvement plan with a laser focus on the four attendance categories.
• Generates a daily attendance summary report of absences and tardiness and responds immediately with the most appropriate course of action. 
• Conducts investigations and deliver legal notices to students’ homes.
• Enforces individual students’ corrective action to improve attendance and punctuality.
• Appraises the principal and the Office of Attendance of any trends or extreme cases of absenteeism.  
• Engages families by visiting homes, makes phone calls, or uses other forms of communications to make affirmative contact with families and determines reason for absence. 
• Serves on the Truancy Task Force whose duties involve: patrolling neighborhoods of Newark with the Newark Police Department in order to transport truant students to the Task Force location; transport students from Truancy Task Force location to  the school where the student is registered; complete and deliver paperwork to school’s Main Office for follow up.
• Prepares social case histories with clear and accurate data containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.  Collects data for legal action and, when required, appears in court.
• Investigates and gathers various information for special studies.  
• Collaborates with various district leads to ensure homeless and displaced students are receiving district supports.
• Conducts address verifications.
• Cooperates with public and private welfare agencies.
• Administers school census.
• May supervise the movement of students to and from the school bus.
• Participates in the following:  Perfect Attendance Initiatives, Attendance Poster Contest, Truancy Task Force, and Parent Conference days.
• Perform other duties and tasks assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
• Education: 
o Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. 
o Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience in teaching, guidance counseling, or social work or experience in the collection and investigation of information regarding school absences on a year for year basis with thirty (30) semester hour credits being equal to one (1) year of experience.
o Appointees will be required to travel throughout the City of Newark and surrounding areas and possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey as the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Protection of buildings, contents, and occupants from hazards:
1. Visually inspects window bars, doors, locks, and other fixtures to ensure they are secure or properly locked and have not been tampered with to prevent theft, unlawful entry, and so forth.
2. Inspects assigned areas for those conditions that may contribute to fire (for example, discarded burning cigarettes) and sees to it that fire extinguishers are in place and undisturbed or operational.
3. Observes odors in buildings or on grounds to detect source of smoke, gas seepage, and so forth.
4. Listens for unusual sounds to detect leaking plumbing, breakage of glass, tampering of locks or windows, and so forth.
5. Searches designated area for explosive devices using flashlight and precautionary measures not to disturb potential explosives, and notifies bomb disposal unit by calling a special number at the local police department.
6. Puts out fires using fire extinguisher. 
7. Patrols by car or on foot grounds adjacent to public buildings to detect hazards such as fire, theft, vandalism, and so forth.
8. Sits and views a monitor screen or electronic surveillance board and remains alert to movement on screen which would indicate the presence of unauthorized persons or intruders in restricted area.
9. Sits or stands at a post and maintains orderly flow of individuals on entering and leaving.
10. Examines credentials such as employee passes and press passes at entry point to the building or facility and/or issues special passes to visitors to prevent entry by unauthorized persons and to maintain a permanent record of those using the facility.
11. Identifies employees and visitors entering or leaving the building by recognition of faces.
12. Requests verbal or written information from individuals pertaining to their destination, identity, and nature of their visit.
13. Accompanies employee from office building to parking lot, street, or rides in motor vehicle to prevent possible theft or loss of money or valuables being transported.
14. Visually inspects gauges, meters, and other instruments that indicate equipment on public property is functional and has not been tampered with.
15. Observes departing individuals who carry unusually large packages or bundles to prevent the theft of government property such as office equipment, books, films, and so forth, and determines if the individual warrants searching.
16. Searches packages of those entering building for firearms or other dangerous objects to prevent the injury of those present in the facility.
17. After normal operating hours, escorts employees to their automobile in the parking lot to ensure their safe departure.
18. Removes unwilling person from premises after issuing verbal warning regarding a rule violation concerning disorderly conduct, loitering, unauthorized entry, and so forth.
19. Accompanies detainees such as suspicious or disorderly persons to designated or restricted area for holding until municipal or other law enforcement individual arrives.
20. Aids a law enforcement officer by accompanying prisoners to designated location to watch and report on the movements or conduct of prisoners and/or others.
21. Observes individuals entering and leaving premises to ensure their safe and orderly conduct.
22. Restrains violent or disorderly persons who are intent on disturbing government proceedings or harming themselves/others.

Information and Communication:
1. Notifies other guard personnel to be on the lookout for a person or persons of a particular description.
2. Gives verbal warnings to individuals of regulations such as those pertaining to disorderly conduct, loitering, smoking, or entry without proper passes to ensure enforcement of rules intended to protect the building and its occupants.
3. Obtains a verbal description via telephone or walkie-talkie of person or persons present in the building who may present a potential danger.
4. Tells occupants of building to evacuate premises and warns about impending danger from explosives, fires, and so forth to ensure an orderly and safe exit.
5. Gives instructions to occupants for prompt evacuation and on designated safe area for assembly.
6. Appears in court as a witness to testify against persons being charged with vandalism, theft, fire, or misconduct on government property.
7. Gives simple answers to persons who inquire about the location of persons or services available, physical layout of a facility, and so forth.

Accidents:
1. Judges the severity of injury and obtains assistance by using walkie-talkie or telephone to contact an emergency vehicle to transport victim for emergency medical care.
2. Gives emergency first aid. 

Traffic Control:
1. Stands at intersection and gives hand-signals to moving vehicles to ensure smooth and rapid flow of traffic.
2. Aids pedestrians in crossing heavily trafficked intersections to prevent vehicular congestion and accidents.
3. Checks cars in restricted parking areas such as employee or visitor parking lots for parking authorization stickers and issues warning or citation to prevent use of these areas by unauthorized individuals.
4. Prevents entry or use of a restricted area by certain vehicles by using hand-signals or explaining to drivers the regulations or rules that prohibit entry.
5. Admits entry of vehicle after checking pertinent data such as driver's identification, weight, size of vehicle, and so forth.
6. Drives government vehicle or vehicle belonging to employee to move it from an area where it is obstructing traffic.

Other:
1. Records observations on conditions in building or in assigned area reporting any unusual occurrence, property damage, or mishaps to visitors, and documents rule violations to provide a permanent record of incidents for police or other investigatory individual or to inform guard on next shift of past activities.
2. Attends classroom-training programs on work related topics such as bomb detection and first aid.
3. Attends roll call to listen to announcement of work assignments and other related information.
4. Records the location of missing or damaged signs and warnings, and submits it to supervisor for corrective actions.
5. May apprehend law violators and inform them of their rights.
6. Questions suspicious persons and may detain and arrest those persons who violate agency rules, regulations, and pertinent laws.
7. Turns key or records visits at watch stations to indicate that rounds have been completed at specified intervals.
8. Reports verbally to supervisor (or other individual) on the security rounds/checks.
9. Reports to supervisor or other appropriate individual by using walkie-talkie or telephone any unusual conditions or malfunctioning of equipment such as heating or plumbing system equipment and so forth, or takes temporary measures to correct malfunction to prevent further damage to building.
10. Seizes contraband material or stolen property and detains suspects for questioning.
11. Escorts unruly persons from premises.
12. May, on occasion or incidentally, operate an elevator for security purposes to limit access of persons to and from certain floors and buildings so as to preserve and maintain security of such areas.

SENIOR FOOD SERVICE WORKER

The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Senior Food Service Worker within various locations.

This title is governed by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission; meaning that a candidate for the position will be placed as a provisional employee. At a later date the candidate will be required to take an examination administered by the Civil Service Commission. Candidates must score and rank high enough on this examination in order to remain in the position as a permanent employee.

DEFINITION:  Under direction of a Cook, Head Cook, Food Service Supervisor, or other supervisory official, assists with the work involved in food preparation and service and may take the lead in group of Food Service Workers, patients, or inmates engaged in storing and preparing food for cooking and in serving food; does related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
1. Graduation from High School or Vocational School or possession of an approved High School Equivalent Certificate.
2. One (1) year of experience in general unskilled kitchen or food service work.
3. Must be ServSafe Certified and have a valid Food Handlers certificate.
4. Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. As assigned, acts as a general assistant in a kitchen, bakery, cannery, dining room, cafeteria, or other food preparation or service unit.
2. Serves special diets according to prescribed portions control guide set a by Dietitian.
3. Washes, scrubs, pares, hulls, cores, and prepares vegetables, fruits, and berries for cooking, or for serving using manual or power driven equipment.
4. As assigned, may assume the responsibility for certain phases of food preparation and cooking.
5. Assists in the cutting of meat and in baking.
6. Assists in keeping the kitchen or other areas in a safe, clean, and orderly condition at all times; cleans refrigerators.
7. Assists or takes the lead in the serving of food from the steam tables and other cooking utensils; arranges trays.
8. Delivers food to dining rooms and may assign employees in the delivery of this service.
9. May take the lead in the service of food.
10. Assists, as required, in the preparation of salads, desserts, and beverages.
11. Sets tables, changes linens, counts dishes, linen, and silverware.
12. As a lead worker, ensures that other assigned employees transport and deliver food in an efficient and timely manner.
13. When assigned to a dishwashing unit sees that dishes, trays, pots, pans, silverware, and kitchen and other food preparation and service equipment are properly washed and dried.
14. Washes kitchen, dining room tables, and food storage area.
15. Washes and polishes ranges, roasters, broilers, milk cans, and other equipment.
16. Polishes stainless steel equipment.
17. Receives, checks, weighs, measures, issues, and prepares records and inventories of food supplies and equipment.  
18. Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information system used by the agency, office, or related units.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of the preparation of vegetables and fruits for cooking.
2. Knowledge of the proper methods and materials used in cleaning, polishing, and in maintaining kitchen, storage, and food service areas in a clean, sanitary, orderly, and safe condition.
3. Ability to learn, understand, and acknowledge student’s rights and privileges.
4. Ability to remember oral and written instructions and directions and to learn quickly from demonstrations.
5. Ability to serve food from steam tables or other utensils efficiently.
6. Ability to prepare trays and to set tables.
7. Ability to wait on tables and to deliver trays.
8. Ability to do and take the lead in the manual work involved in washing dishes, pots and pans, in polishing silverware and metal equipment, in keeping ranges, and broiler, roaster, and other equipment clean and polished, and other areas.

This title is governed by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission; meaning that a candidate for this position will be placed as a provisional employee. Upon hire, the employee will be required to complete a 90-Day Working test period during which the employee’s performance will be evaluated. Employee must successfully complete the designated probation period in order to remain in the position as a permanent employee.

DEFINITION:  Under direction, provides direct aide to teachers or other certificated staff members; assists in the classroom activities of school children; does other related duties.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides direct aide to classroom teachers in maintaining a neat, orderly classroom, in specific programs such as health and physical education, in the preparation of a laboratory and audiovisual program, in reading to children, and in accompanying singing and dancing with music instruments.
