Per Diem Custodial Worker
(Pending availability of funds and Board of Education approval)
The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the aforementioned position.
DEFINITION: Under direction, performs varied simple, routine tasks involved in the cleaning and maintenance of buildings/grounds; does other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
1. Graduation from High School or Vocational School or possession of an approved High School Equivalent Certificate.
2. Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Either working alone or as one of a group, washes and cleans windows/floors, polishes floors, and dusts desks, tables, chairs, and other furniture.
2. Cleans business offices, cafeterias, living quarters, classrooms, halls, gymnasiums, auditoriums, lavatories, and other buildings.
3. Burns trash in incinerators.
4. Polishes metal fixtures/trimmings.
5. Keeps order in lavatories and locker rooms.
6. Acts as watch person.
7. Arranges equipment, materials, and articles in an orderly manner.
8. Deposits sweepings in trash cans.
9. Replaces light bulbs.
10. Services water coolers.
11. Mows lawns.
12. Trims hedges.
13. Rakes and burns leaves/refuse.
14. Trims driveway and sidewalk edges.
15. Shovels snow from driveway and sidewalk, and spreads sand, salt, or ashes on icy surfaces to prevent slipping.
16. May assist carpenters, electricians, painters, plumbers, and steamfitters by carrying tools/materials, by placing/removing ladders, and by cleaning up after work has been done.
17. Maintains records.
18. Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
19. Perform other duties and tasks assigned by supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
1. Ability to understand, remember, and carry out oral/written directions, and to learn quickly from oral/written directions and from demonstrations.
2. Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
3. Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.

SALARY, TERMS, & AFFILIATION
- Salary : $18.20 per hour
- Employment Period: Twelve (12) Months (as needed)
- Union Affiliation: Local 617 bargaining unit.
