School Bus/Van Driver
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Valid Kansas CDL license with required endorsements
2. Complete and pass physical for school bus drivers
3. Minimum of 12 hours training time (6 without students 6 with students.
4. Meet all state requirements for bus drivers which includes defensive driving course and first aid course
5. Demonstrated aptitude or competence for all assigned responsibilities
6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board of education may find appropriate and acceptable
REPORTS TO: Transportation Director
JOB GOAL: To enable each student, through safe and efficient transportation, to take full advantage of the complete range of curricular and extracurricular activities offered by the district’s schools
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Knowledge of and obeys all traffic laws.
2. Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
3. Follows district’s policies in regard to student transportation.
4. Maintain discipline and report those who are not abiding by the rules to the proper authority to maintain order while on the bus.
5. Follows district’s procedures when disciplining students.
6. Keeps assigned bus clean for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation of vehicle.
7. Keeps to assigned schedule to provide minimal school disruptions.
8. Performs pre-trip inspection following district’s policy.
9. Notifies supervisor in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
10. Discharges students only at authorized stops.
11. Transports only authorized students.
12. Reports all accidents and completes required reports to the proper authorities.
13. Ability to drive vehicles of different sizes and styles.
14. Regular onsite attendance.
15. Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding student and staff information in order to remain in compliance with legal requirements and to maintain a professional work environment.
16. Other responsibilities as noted in the transportation handbook or as assigned by the transportation supervisor.
17. Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Wage and length of employment to be established by
the board of education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board’s policy on evaluation of support services personnel.
