    Director of Teaching and Learning:

    Position Goal
    • Provide leadership and coordination in staff development and curriculum, instruction, and assessment activities to improve initiatives related to the district’s strategic plan and Comprehensive School Improvement Plan.
    Performance Responsibilities
    1. Develops and implements a long-range plan for effective implementation of programs and processes that focus on the increase of student achievement.
    2. Provides leadership, direction, support and supervision to campus principals for improvement in student achievement.
    3. Designs a robust professional learning system that emphasizes high quality, Tier 1 instruction.
    4. Supervise the collection and analysis of assessment data by certified staff and assist with the identification and correction of areas of curriculum weakness.
    5. Assume responsibility for the development of a coordinated and articulated program of instruction for grades kindergarten through twelve in the areas of curriculum and instruction.
    6. Collect and update data and materials in preparation for state requirements concerning the use of instructional time, curriculum development and assessment, and district curriculum planning efforts.
    7. Administer the K-12 testing program.
    8. Coordinate the selection process for instructional materials K-12.
    9. Participate in the development of government-funded curriculum and instruction programs.
    10. Plan, coordinate, and oversee all summer curriculum development work.
    11. Attend board meetings serving as a resource person and prepare information for the school board as requested by the superintendent.
    12. Assist with required federal, state and district reporting.
    13. Establish and maintain close communication with the administrative team, the Department of Education, and the area education agency.
    14. Keep abreast of current federal, state and local requirements as well as trends in professional learning, instructional technology and leadership development that may enhance practice.
    15. Perform other duties as assigned.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
    • Knowledge of K-12 school curriculum and concepts in multiple areas, including regular and special education, as well as elementary, middle and high school levels.
    • Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation and staff supervision.
    • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
    • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education, special education, individuals with disabilities, etc.
    • Ability to direct the on-going instructional programs for the District, providing for innovative programs and modifications to improve the quality of instruction.
    • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate projects, work and training related to the implementation and supervision of the K-12 instructional programs for the District.
    • Ability to apply contemporary curriculum frameworks and current national and state standards for student learning.
    • Ability to prepare oral or written communications, such as presentations, reports, memoranda, letters, grant proposals, curriculum documents, etc.
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, parents, community and others contacted in the course of work.
    • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
    • Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.
    • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth.
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
    Qualifications 
    1. Master’s Degree and Professional Administrator License with Evaluator Approval.
    2. Experience as an administrator at the building level and/or as a central office administrator.
    3. Training, knowledge and experience of best practices in curriculum development, supervision and assessment.
    4. Ability to utilize, analyze and interpret data for decision-making.
    5. Communicates effectively, proactively, and respectfully with teachers, staff, parents and other stakeholders.
    6. Ability to work collaboratively with other district administrators and faculty to move the district forward.
    7. Experience with professional learning communities.
    8. Focuses on the district’s mission, vision and core values while demonstrating integrity, accountability, patience and flexibility while completing job responsibilities.
    9. Ability to coach and lead professional development.
    10. Exceptional writing, interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.

    Experience
    • Extensive successful experience in researching and implementing practices related to instruction, curriculum development, professional development and supervision.
    • Successful leadership/administrative experience in designing and implementing effective instructional programs and supervising, mentoring and training staff/personnel, preferable in more than one capacity.
    Physical Requirements
    Bending, carrying, climbing, driving, lifting, pushing-pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, walking.

    Working Conditions
    1. Includes extremes of temperature and humidity.
    2. Hazards include stairs and communicable diseases.

    Terms of Employment
    • 260 day contract.
    Evaluation:
    • Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board policy.
