    POSITION: Teacher, Special Education (.6 FTE)
    LOCATION: Valley View Innovation School
    PAY RANGE: Licensed Salary Schedule, $30,002 - $62,317 Annual Salary
    CALENDAR: 190 Days
    REPORTS TO: School Director
     
     
    SCHOOL DESIGN OVERVIEW:
    Valley View Innovation School, PK-8, serving PK-6, specializes in supporting students who are identified as gifted and talented or are ready for advanced and accelerated learning opportunities. Our vision is for each student to develop a curiosity about learning, discover their interests and passions, and grow in their love of learning. We will do this by providing a welcoming, joyful, safe, and supportive learning environment where barriers are removed, and opportunities are presented to create personal learning pathways. Fueled by each student’s engaging, thoughtful, and complex questions, projects come to life in one of six Immersion Studios – robotics, technology, culinary arts, art, music, and science. Projects incorporate more standards at one time and build cross-curricular connections.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Colorado teaching license with an appropriate Special Education endorsement required.
    • Additional endorsement in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education preferred, *or willingness to pursue endorsement or equivalent coursework. *
     
    • K-3 teachers must provide documentation of evidence-based literacy training, Read Act Designation, per CDE requirements.
     
    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/REQUIREMENTS:
    1. Willingness and ability to meet the diverse needs of learners (including special education, at-risk, linguistically, and culturally diverse) by adjusting curriculum and working cooperatively with other staff through inclusion.
    2. Commitments and competencies in using a variety of instructional deliveries include, but are not limited to, cooperative learning, multi-sensory reading, and math.
    3. Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to a standards-based system of designing and delivering instruction and assessment.
    4. Will demonstrate a willingness to collaborate, solve problems.
    5. Designs instructional intervention that is clearly focused on the standards and assessments established by the District and the State.
    6. Provides expanded opportunities and support for learner success.
    7. Demonstrates and models’ high expectations for all students to succeed.
    8. Aligns all instruction with and designs instructional interventions with State and local standards and assessments.
    9. Establishes and maintains strong classroom management.
    10. Utilizes a variety of teaching styles to accommodate student-learning needs.
    11. Knowledgeable and experienced in administering a variety of assessments.
    12. Demonstrated ability to work with a team approach.
    13. Demonstrated ability to write quality IEPs, including goals and benchmarks based on assessments and needs.
    14. Flexibility around IEP meeting times.
    15. Previous training in KAPLAN, ECAR, and ECAW preferred.
     
    NOTE: Special Education staff are hired and assigned to schools and programs based on the level and type of student needs. Staff members may be reassigned or released in accordance with applicable law and policy, when any of the following occur: program modification, enrollment decline, or change in level and/or type of student needs.
     
    EDUCATION/TRAINING:
    Special Education staff are hired and assigned to schools and programs based on the level and type of student needs. Special Education assignments may require training from the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) on non-verbal de-escalation and physical restraint. The district will provide the training/certification at no-cost to the employee and in accordance with Board Policy.  New employees in assignments in which CPI is required will attend training within 30-45 days of their start date and will be required to attend a refresher course every 18-24 months.
     
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be frequently required to talk or hear; stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and/or stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may be required to lift/carry up to 50 pounds without assistance, and push/pull 200 pounds while assisting students in wheelchairs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Completion of a pre-employment agility/physical is required.
