  •   Lake Forest High School District 115 is seeking a full-time 12 month, 8 hour/day Grounds Worker.

    Starting Rate: $20.63/hour

    DescriptionThe Grounds Worker assists with the routine maintenance tasks and related duties related to grounds and facility maintenance. The Grounds Worker is responsible for tree trimming, removing brush, lawn mowing, weeding, snow removal and field maintenance. Duties may include using a variety of hand and power tools and operating motor vehicles and light trucks.
     
    Qualifications and Requirements
    Education, Experience, and Licensure:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Valid Driver’s License
    • Valid Applicator’s License or ability to obtain license within first year of employment
    • Experience in general lawn care maintenance - preferred
     Competencies:

    • Knowledge of:
      • how to use and maintain lawn care equipment
      • how to use and maintain snow removal equipment

    Essential Functions
    • Grounds Maintenance: 
      • Mows, seeds and cares of all grass, trees, shrubs, flowers on district owned property
      • Cleans the areas around the building of paper and other debris on a daily basis
      • Empties outside garbage containers daily
      • Cleans ramps, window wells, and drains
      • Repairs damage to roadways, parking lots and access roads, as budget will permit and safety demands
      • Repairs the storage areas, timekeeper’s platform, benches, bleachers, fencing, trash barrels and damage caused by cars driving on the grass area when soft  
      • Maintains tennis courts, playing fields, and sprinkler system
      • Waters lawns and fields, rakes leaves, fertilizes and aerates fields
      • Sets up the needed equipment for athletics
      • Performs daily and weekly equipment maintenance repairs
      • Turns flower beds and completes necessary planting for the spring  
      • Prepares equipment for winter and snow removal
    • Snow Removal: 
      • Plows and salts drives and sidewalks as needed
      • Shovels walks and outside steps as needed
      • Winter hours vary depending on the weather. Starting early or staying late may be required
      • Working weekends and Holidays may be required
    • Equipment Maintenance:
      • Maintains all motorized units i.e. oil changes and filters, greasing, general upkeep and upkeep on all items not needing special tools and/or training
    • Playing Field Preparation
      • Cuts in the lines for all playing and practice fields for spring and fall sports and paint in those fields
      • Maintains football fields and line as needed 
    • Performs custodial and general maintenance duties during the winter when the outside work is sporadic
    • Performs other job related duties as assigned by direct supervisor
    • Adheres to Board of Education policies and procedures
     
    Physical Demands
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, reach, grasp, feel, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, and lift. Repetitive motions are required, especially which involves substantial movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers. The employee must lift and/or move up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 80 pounds of force frequently, and up to 50 pounds of force constantly. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Elevated work on ladder and aerial lifts is also required.
     
    Work Environment:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly subject to inside and outside environmental conditions and is subject to loud noises, extreme heat, extreme cold, humidity, fumes, odors, gasses, chemical and hazards associated with moving mechanical parts and vehicles.
