General Summary Under general supervision this position is responsible for administrative support of the special education system and 504s within the school site. Works directly with school personnel in special education and 504 matters such as scheduling meetings, referrals/testing, follow up meetings, and new student placement. Ensures that the special education and 504 processes run in an efficient and accurate manner. Ensures that the special education and 504 paperwork is in compliance with state and federal guidelines. |
Essential Functions - Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One.
- Effectively interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders.
- Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment.
- Compiles and transmits to the district office copies of the due process forms with all related paperwork for IEP and 504 meetings.
- Receives referral paperwork to compile due process packets for initial referrals for special education and 504s.
- Compiles and maintains original special education and 504 student files and all related information.
- Serves as liaison between parents of special education and 504 students and school staff in matters relating to special education and 504s.
- Using the mandated special education and 504 computer system, maintains current databases on all special education and 504 students. This is essential for district office and school reporting.
- Schedules all special education IEP and 504 meetings inviting key personnel as required by state and federally mandated law for each particular disability of students. Coordinates and compiles the paperwork required for each specific meeting as mandated by state and federal law.
- Requests medical information, schedules Clinics for Preschoolers (if applicable), and keeps records of all referrals for testing from psychologists.
- Assists the occupational therapist, physical therapist, vision impaired teacher, hearing impaired teacher, and school nurse with data on students.
- Works with outside agencies such as Department of Mental Health, Department of Social Serviced, etc. as needed.
- Monitors all special education and 504 paperwork for compliance with state and federal mandated laws.
- Maintains class list/caseloads for special education and 504 students. Maintains detailed records of meetings on each student.
- Maintains confidentiality of personally identifiable data on special education and 504 students.
- Maintains adequate supply of office supplies and needed special education and 504 paperwork.
- Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
- Selects, requests, and maintains an inventory of instructional aides, technology tools, equipment, and supplies needed for daily activities; provides for safe storage and proper use of all materials, tools, and equipment.
- Effectively uses personal technology devices and software applications for the management of pertinent information and communication.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Education/Work Experience - Two year degree; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Prior office experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with the EDPlan program
- Experience using Google Calendar
- Experience and/or knowledge of Special Education

Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and operations. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation, and utilization of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and to complete work without the need for direct supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, teachers, students, and the general public. |
Working Conditions Conducts duties in an office environment with no significant exposure to environmental conditions. Requires ability to provide constant attention, conduct detailed data entry tasks and meet deadlines. Physical demands are restricted to work requiring occasional lifting and moving of items up to twenty-five pounds. Job requires operation of standard office and technology equipment. Occasional travel is required; no overnight travel required. |
