General Summary |
Under general supervision works in preparing and serving foods and meals. Performs related cleaning duties in accord with the state and federal regulations. Work is subject to supervision by the Food Service Manager and is reviewed through general inspection and observation of results. |
Essential Functions |
- Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One.
- Effectively interacts, communicates and collaborates with students, parents, teachers, co-workers, supervisors, administrators and all other stakeholders.
- Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment.
- Prepares one or several parts of breakfast and/or lunch meals in proper quantities for serving; measures, mixes, seasons, garnishes and otherwise prepares meals following approved recipes or package directions; properly handles, stores and/or disposes of leftover foods.
- Keeps simple records and makes reports as directed.
- Serves food in cafeteria using proper portion control utensils and sets up food line by stocking required food, drink, special sales and other components necessary for meal service; maintains proper food temperatures throughout preparation, meal service, and storage procedures.
- Maintains sanitary conditions in assigned work areas; washes pots, pans, dishes, food serving carts, and other kitchen equipment.
- Properly operates and/or utilizes various food service appliances and equipment such as ovens, stoves, mixers, dish washer, disposals, deep fryers, meat slicer, etc.; operates cash registers as assigned; appropriately reports major repair needs to immediate supervisor.
- Follows current district, state and USDA federal rules, regulations and standard operating procedures.
- Attends district food safety trainings and applies learned principles daily.
- Participates in all other professional meetings as required.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Education/Work Experience |
- High school graduate; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
- Prior food service experience is preferred

Knowledge/Skills |
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Ability to read and write, and understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to perform basic math and simple fractions to graduate and decrease recipes and count simple inventory. Ability to demonstrate basic computer/keyboarding skills. Working knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in preparing food on a large scale and the use and care of utensils and equipment. Working knowledge of foods and their preparation and food values. Ability to conduct food preparation and service activities in an effective and timely manner in accordance with all applicable regulations, standards and requirements. Positive work ethic required including reporting to work on time and regularly. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, colleagues and all other stakeholders involved in the activities of the job. |
Working Conditions |
Must be able to perform manual work requiring some physical strength and agility and at times lifting up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work long hours while standing with routine exposure to cold and heat. Repetitive tasks performed daily include preparation and service of food and meals; receiving, storing, and rotating products; and cleaning duties involving sweeping, mopping and sanitizing kitchen equipment. Requires ability to provide constant attention and meet deadlines. There is a possibility of exposure to biohazard risks including oral secretions and blood. Must wear a district approved uniform, hard soled/non-slip shoes and a suitable and effective hair restraint. |

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel. |
