    Job Title: Director, Student Administration

    Reports to (Title): Executive Director of Student Services

    General Summary:

    Under general supervision serves as the district’s liaison for student administration, including enrollment as a new student, discipline and attendance.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One.
    • Effectively interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders.
    • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment.
    • Supervises and assists all schools in programs and policies regarding student discipline and welfare.
    • Defines and interprets the professional functions of student administration to administrators, teachers, students, parents and the public.
    • Supervises the coordinator/hearing officer of student administration.
    • Supervises and assists in attendance and truancy matters.
    • Oversees the processes for planning, conducting and following up on all student discipline hearings in accordance with applicable board policies.
    • Selects, trains and monitors district hearing officers. 
    • Provides or recommends appropriate programs dealing with the rights of students, to include due process, welfare and safety.
    • Oversees the district drug test program.
    • Establishes effective working relationships with other institutions of the town, region and state that may be of use to administrators, teachers, parents to students.
    • Confers with parents, teachers, counselors and related personnel on matters of discipline and student welfare.
    • Participates and cooperates with community agencies and programs, as assigned.  
    • Plans and supervises an orientation program for student administration, as appropriate.  
    • Conducts in-service workshops and training and development programs for district staff re:  matters related to student administration.
    • Prepares and administers the student administration budget, as assigned.
    • Coordinates with the director of school counseling and advisement in the maintenance of educational records.
    • Reviews and makes recommendations to the executive director of student services for program improvement and needed changes in district policies and procedures.
    • Updates and edits policies pertaining to student administration; provides draft policies for review by the district leadership and the school board.
    • Oversees and ensures the implementation of the McKinney-Vento Act.
    • Participates in all district professional meetings and training sessions as required.
    • Assumes responsibility for personal professional development; stays abreast of current literature, new research findings and improved techniques in specialized areas related to student administration.
    • Selects, requests, and maintains an inventory of instructional aides, technology tools, equipment, and supplies needed for daily activities; ensures safe storage and proper use of all materials, tools, and equipment.
    • Effectively uses personal technology devices and software applications for the management of pertinent information and communication.
    • Performs other related duties as required.

    Minimum Education/Work Experience:

    • 3+ Years administrative experience (Assistant Principal, Principal or Central Services Position)
    • Eligible by July 1, 2025 for SC Administrative Certificate Add-On (Secondary Principal)

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in the implementation of programs and policies regarding student discipline and welfare.
    • Experience in serving as a hearing officer. 
    • Evidence of reviewing legal documents and advising school officials.
    • Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Experience in truancy court proceedings. 
    • Evidence in the ability to lead a strong, vision-focused, service-oriented team of professionals. 
    • Experience in providing professional learning to staff.
    • Evidence of leading a student drug testing program.
    • Experience in assisting families with nontraditional student enrollments. 
    • Demonstrated record of success in interpreting data and leading strategic initiatives that resulted in measurable improvements.

    Knowledge/Skills:

    Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and operations. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation, and utilization of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and to complete work without the need for direct supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to interact and communicate in an effective and professional manner with supervisors, co-workers, teachers, students, and the general public.   
     

    Working Conditions:

    Work is conducted primarily indoors with no significant exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Physical demands are generally restricted to general office work requiring the occasional lifting and moving of items weighing up to twenty-five pounds. Requires ability to conduct duties that require constant attention and meeting tight deadlines. Local travel is required; occasional overnight travel is required.

    Responsibility:

    Supervisory responsibilities as assigned. Budget responsibilities as assigned.

    Evaluation:

    Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the school board’s policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
