    Job Title:  Special Education Moderate/Severe (M/S) Teacher
     
    Qualifications:  Valid SC Special Education teaching certification in designated area; Certification pending graduation; Certificate of Eligibility for Alternative Certification Pathway
     
    Job Goal:        The Special Education Teacher, Moderate/Severe will provide instruction, assessment and program planning for special education students with a primary disability such as autism, deaf-blindness, moderate to severe intellectual disability, and/or multiple disabilities; monitor and evaluate student progress and behavior; research, obtain and provide instructional materials for special education services; serve as an informational resource for students, parents, district personnel and community organizations; work within a pull-out/push-in environment or within a self- contained classroom.
     
    Reports to:  Principal & Director of Exceptional Children
     
    Performance Responsibilities:  (includes but not limited to):
    • Provide instruction, assessment and program planning for special education students with a primary disability of autism, deaf-blindness, moderate to severe intellectual disability, and/or multiple disabilities, participate in preparing Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and objectives for eligible students.
    • Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.
    • Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.
    • Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
    • Schedules team meetings and works cooperatively with team members and others in developing instructional goals and strategies.
    • Coordinates the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP.
    • Train and provide work direction and guidance to assigned personnel; organize and conduct in-services for staff as directed.
    • Operate a variety of office and classroom equipment including a computer and assigned software, and nursing/medical equipment.
    • May be responsible for assisting students who have toileting, hygiene, feeding, dressing, and other activities of daily living needs.
    • Employs and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation, and mutual respect consistent with district policies and procedures.
    • Provides consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
    • Serves as primary contact for the parent regarding student's IEP.
    • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
    • Keep appropriate records and prepares progress reports and enters grade in district software programs.
    • Creates an environment for learning through student displays and exhibits of work
    • Supervises classroom and students and volunteers
    • Meet standards set forth by State Department of Education Certified Teacher Evaluation Model
    • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor

    Physical Requirements:  Requires light work that involves walking, bending, or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis or routine keyboard operations.
     
    Compensation:  190 days; Lexington Four 2025-26 Teacher Salary Schedule
     
    Evaluation:      Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy and the State Department of Education Certified Teacher Evaluation Process
