SUMMARY: The Accounting I role is responsible for managing and maintaining accurate fiscal records and ensuring compliance with all relevant financial laws, regulations, and policies. Key responsibilities include monitoring budgets and cash flow, performing monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, and collaborating with schools and departments to ensure proper fund management. The role requires establishing and maintaining month-end closing processes, acting as the district's authorized fiscal representative, and managing the district's Purchasing Card program. Additional duties include providing backup support for Accounts Payable, preparing reports, assisting with payroll accounting, and contributing to the overall success of the business office. Exceptional customer service, strict confidentiality, and a proactive approach to financial management are essential.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES REQUIRE THE ABILITY TO:
Establishes and maintains fiscal record keeping systems for all funds.
Monitors budgets and cash flow to assure funds are being received and expended appropriately.
Work with a variety of Schools/Departments to ensure funds are collected and properly deposited into the correct accounts.
Performs and reviews monthly reconciliations including cash and other Balance Sheet accounts.
Acts as authorized fiscal representative for the district.
Monitors interfund balances and makes transfers as necessary.
Establishes and maintains month-end closing processes.
Works with Payroll & HR to ensure proper accounting for Payroll.
Ensures compliance with state/federal fiscal laws, regulations and Board policies.
Service as back-up for Accounts Payable Technician.
Assist with spreadsheets, correspondence, or other duties as needed or assigned.
Maintain strict confidentiality.
Prepare monthly reports as needed and/or required.
Manage the district Purchasing Card program
Provide Excellent Customer Service
Assist in the Overall Success of the Business Office
Perform other duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience: Requires an Accounting, Business or related degree or equivalent experience, with working knowledge of accounting best practices as well as knowledge or federal and state regulations. Must provide excellent customer service. Must have excellent organization skills and the ability to prioritize. Proficient in computerize payroll software to include a working knowledge of spreadsheets, word processing, databases and email. Previous payroll experienxe in a school district or governmental setting preferred. Relevant coursework or a formal degree in an accounting or business field is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as invoices, purchase orders, general ledger, timesheets and other accounting documents. Ability to write/type routine reports and correspondence. Must have above average communication skills to establish positive relationships with vendors and district personnel.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, percentages, area and volume. Proficient calculator skills. 10-Key be touch is helpful.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. May have to perform several tasks at once and prioritize.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental staff and other employees. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Must have attention to detail and the ability to manage time effectively.

Salary Placement:
Compensation Range: $65,000-$80,000
