    JOB DESCRIPTION 

    HUMAN RESOURCES ASSISTANT           
    REPORTS TO:  Assistant Superintendent FLSA STATUS:  Non-Exempt
    SUPERVISES:  n/a POSITION STATUS:  Non-Contracted / Salaried
    EVALUATION:  Position evaluated by Asst. Supt. WORK YEAR:  230 days / 40 hours per week
    EVALUATION INSTRUMENT:  Local SALARY SCHEDULE:  Central Office Classified
    RETIREMENT:  TRS
                
    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    • Salary and benefits shall be paid according to the system's approved salary schedule.  
    • Length of work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the district.
    • A service employee who is employed in a non-certificated position; who is eligible to participate in the Teachers Retirement System or its local equivalent; and who works at least 20 hours per week will be eligible for health insurance.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • State approved High School Equivalency; Post-secondary training preferred
    • Five (5) years of clerical experience, preferably in an educational setting
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Skill with using computers and computer applications, such as Word, Excel, Google Apps, email, and other applications pertaining to the job
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
                
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Considerable knowledge of the operations and functions of the school system, especially pertaining to Human Resources. 
    • Considerable knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic. 
    • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of administrative clerical work, including writing, editing, and publishing communications. 
    • Ability to interpret rules, regulations, and policies, and to use mature judgment in making decisions. 
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with the educational leadership, employees, and the general public. 
               
    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
     
    1. Serves as point of contact for HR-related topics in eduction, including (but not restricted to) Workers Comp, certification, employment and unemployment issues, communication with the Professional Standards Commission, FMLA, background checks, employee leave, and other subjects as they arise. 
    2. Manages telephone calls, transmits messages, routes calls to appropriate persons.
    3. Maintains confidentiality of student and employee information with visitors and via telephone.
    4. Prepares materials and makes copies as needed.
    5. Assists in setting up for meetings as directed.
    6. Participates in special projects as assigned.
    7. Works with the Assistant Superintendent – HR and the HR Administrative Assistant.

    1. Support the Finance Department with clerical duties as needed.
    2. Follows work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular and punctual manner.
    3. Performs other tasks consistent with goals and objectives that support the vision and mission of the Lee County School System.
    4. Performs other duties as assigned.
                
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Light Work:  Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects.
