Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
Essential Performance Responsibilities •Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and individual, dual, or team physical activities and sports, utilizing appropriate learning activities.
•Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program.
•Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, and fundamentals of body movement.
•Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student, to the extent feasible.
•Teaches adapted physical education classes for handicapped and/or special needs students.
•Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to insure the over-all safety of students.
•Maintains control of storage areas and use of school-owned property.
•Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
•Evaluates growth of individual students in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in team sports.
•Maintains professional competence through professional learning opportunities provided by the district or in self-selected professional growth activities.
•Communicates with colleagues and parents regarding student progress.
•Identifies needs of students and cooperates with other colleagues to help students solve health, attitude, and/or learning problems.
•Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities.
•Participates in school committees and the sponsorship/coaching of student activities to include extra-curricular sports teams.
•Performs other duties as assigned by school administration.
Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of middle school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Qualifications Profile - Certification/License:
- Georgia State Certification in the appropriate subject matter
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Education - Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
- Masters Degree preferred.
Experience Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
