  •   LEAP Academy University Charter School is seeking a Custodian to support the facility management of its four school building district.  LEAP Academy takes great pride in the appearance of the building infrastructure as well as daily maintenance.  The Custodian will report to the Director of Facilities to provide the school district with a physical environment that is safe, clean, attractive, pleasant, and smooth functioning.  The Custodian will also support the academic activities, sports activities, community and non-community functions as regulated by the school district administration team.
     
    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
    The Custodian will assume the responsibility of securing the opening and closing of the all windows and doors when cleaning and maintaining all spaces.
     
    Internal Building Maintenance
    • Responsible for dusting/waxing furniture, and equipment;
    • Responsible for maintaining building floors:
      • Sweep, dust mop, wet mop floors in buildings and stairwells;
      • Scrub & buff floors using floor machinery;
      • Vacuum and extract carpets in main and office spaces;
    • Responsible for the cleanliness of restrooms and locker rooms throughout the day;
      • Replacing tissue, paper towels, and air fresheners as necessary.
    • Ensure that all wastebaskets and recycling bins throughout the building are clean;
    • Clean and disinfect water fountains on a daily basis.
    • Wash windows – inside and outside;
    • Set up, move, and dismantle furniture, equipment, and portable instructional material and supplies;
    • Occasional painting of building spaces throughout;
    • Change lightbulbs as needed;
    • Ensure that all chalkboards are clean throughout the building classrooms;
     
    External Building Maintenance
    • Maintain building exterior; constantly removing debris and clearing wastebaskets as needed;
    • Maintain the cleanliness of all wastebaskets outside of all buildings;
    • Change lightbulbs as needed;
    • Occasional painting of building external structures as needed;
    • Ensure snow removal during winter season;
    School Function Support
    • Responsible for supporting school functions and events through setup/breakdown of furniture and equipment;
    • Responsible for clean-up and maintaining the cleanliness of spaces during events;
    • Assist in moving and delivering heavy mail and material within the district buildings;
    Inventory
    • Keep custodian carts and closets neat and clean and stocked with the proper supplies;
    • Receive and check in all custodian supply deliveries.
     
    Additional Duties
    Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Facilities and/or Lead Person/COO and Chief Financial Officer/SBA.
     
    Education & Qualifications:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent, with the ability to follow oral & written directions and/or instructions;
    • One-year prior custodial experience;
    • Knowledge of the basic principles of cleaning, safety and security;
    • Ability to analyze and scope job assignments in advance for equipment, supplies and manpower needs;
    • Must be flexible and be able to change scheduled shift assignments, adapt to continuous changes/demands of the job; or work overtime as necessary.
     
    Physical Requirements and Occupational Exposure:
    • Regularly requires walking, standing, stooping, bending, repetitive wrist/hand movement, pushing/pulling for various lengths of time throughout the day;
     
    • Ability to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength (lifting up to 25lbs) to accomplish the duties and responsibilities noted below;
    • Operation of heaving and technical cleaning and building operations equipment;
    • Climbing and working on roofs from ladders, lifts and scaffolding and in confided areas such as crawl spaces;
    • Constant exposure to chemicals;
    • Regularly works inside in areas that are adequately lighted and ventilated.  Some fluctuation in temperature;
    • Protective equipment may be routinely needed; 
    • Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens.
     
    Terms of Employment:     Full-Time:  Works at least 37.5 hours per week.
    Part-Time: Generally, up to 20 hours per week, and less than 30 hours per week.
     
    Pay Rate:  As approved by the Board of Trustees     
     
    Benefits: Full-Time Employees are eligible for benefits.  Part-Time employees are not eligible.
