LEAP Academy University Charter School is seeking qualified Substitute Teachers - that will manage student learning in accordance with the goals and directives of the schools and the NJDOE. This employee is responsible for carrying out the lesson plans of the teacher for whom he/she is substituting and meeting the duties of teaching as outlined by NJDOE and District policies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Additional Duties
•  Following the lesson plan left by the teacher for whom he/she is substituting in accordance with district's philosophy, goals and objectives.
•  Meeting and instructing assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
•  Establishing and maintaining order in the classroom.
•  Maintaining a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
•  Taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, equipment and facilities.
•  Assisting in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and School Board Policies.
•  Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information;
•  Maintains discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive learning environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and county policies;
•  Ensures the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students;
•  Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities;
• Reports to office upon arrival at school; checks mailbox of absent teacher for materials requiring immediate attention; requests clarification of school rules and procedures, if necessary;
• Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible;
•  Implements lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate;
•  Dismisses all students from the classroom before leaving the building;
•  Completes a Substitute Teacher Report Form for the regular classroom teacher;
•  Collects and places students’ papers in regular teacher’s desk;
•  Returns instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place;
•  Complies with and supports school and state regulations and policies;
• Performs other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with school/state policies and practices.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
• Must be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationships maintain effective classroom management strategies.

Physical Demands/Requirements
• Duties performance typically in school settings to include: classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria,auditorium, and recreational areas.
• Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to 40 pounds may be required. Other physical activities may be required.
• Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
• Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
• The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards.
• Regular instruction to special needs children may be necessary.
• Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required on assigned days.
• Regular contact with other staff members and building administrator(s) is required on assigned days as a substitute.

Education & Qualifications
• Minimum 60 college credits or Associates degree,  Bachelor’s degree preferred
• GPA 3.0 or higher
• Required NJ Substitute Teacher Certificate or  NJ state Teacher Certification (New Jersey Standard Certificate, Provisional,  Certificate of Eligibility (CE) or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CEAS) or be eligible for reciprocity with an out-of-state certificate)
• Experience working directly with special education population in an urban classroom setting
• NJDOE Criminal History Review (Fingerprinting) & 20 year Employment History Verification

Part-Time Bus Driver

Title:   School Bus Driver
 
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Director of Transportatiaon, Recruitment, & Enrollment Services and CFO/SBA, to ensure the safe transportation of students, staff, and others to and from school, residential neighborhoods, and field trips.

Essential Functions:
• Safely drives a school bus on days when school is in session over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, loading and unloading students at designated locations.
• Transports students, teachers and others on school field or activity trips.
• Inspects assigned bus on a daily basis prior to transporting of passengers to ensure that bus is in good, clean and safe working order.
• Cleans and refuels bus as needed.
• Ensures that a communication device is in proper working order before each trip.
• Reports all mechanical deficiencies, traffic violations, or accidents, promptly.
• Arranges for and ensures completion of routine maintenance of bus (e.g., oil change); transporting the bus to and from maintenance and/or repair facilities.
• Maintains order and discipline in an effective and courteous manner among students being transported in accordance with district policies and procedures; reports any incidents involving student discipline.
• Observes and tracks route timing, such as total time en-route, time between stops, loading and unloading times or any other requested information for the purpose of establishing route efficiency, as requested.
• Maintains and submits records and reports as required.
• Follows procedures to ensure that no child is left alone on bus without adult supervision at any time, and that all children have departed bus at the end of all bus routes (morning, evening and during field trips or other special trips).
• Inventories bus emergency and first aid supplies and equipment; reports needs to the Director.
• Prepares aides and children for bus drills and ensures bus evacuation drills are held as required.
• In case of accidents/emergencies, evacuates children according to written and practiced procedures, ensures that medical emergency procedures are followed; completes a written report as required.
• Attends and participates in trainings, and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities.
 
Additional Duties
• Performs other related tasks as assigned.

Equipment
• Uses standard automotive and bus equipment, and telephone.
 
Travel Requirements
• Travels to and from school district buildings, to vehicle service stations, field trip locations and other destinations are required.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Knowledge of all traffic laws, regulations, road signs and related information.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to operate the bus, conduct pre-trip inspections, and clean the bus.
• Visual and auditory acuity within professionally determined normal ranges, with correction if needed.
•  Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Effective organizational, problem solving, and time management skills.
• Ability to learn and comprehend information from procedures manuals and other materials. Ability to comprehend and follow traffic signs required.
• Ability to physically move through the bus, center and classrooms.
• Ability to maintain composure and perform responsibilities under pressure and in cases of accidents or other emergencies.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
• Works in standard school bus environment.

Qualifications
1. Criminal History Review required
2. Completion of  CPR & First Aid and driving courses
3. Training on highways safety rules and regulations
4. Completion of a performance test in school bus operation
5. Must pass and annual physical examination
6. Ability to operate a bus in a safe and economical manner
7. Complete lifetime driving history from any state in which you held a driver’s license
Certification/License:
• Motor Vehicle Operator's (DMV) License.
• Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL), class B with Passenger and School Bus endorsement.
• CPR & First Aid
Education:
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Bilingual, both oral and written, ability (English/Spanish) is preferred.
Experience:
• Successful prior experience working as a bus driver, preferably in a school district or transporting children.
• Five (5) years of verifiable driving experience
• No DUI conviction past fifteen (15) years
