Elementary Library Media Specialist - Spoede Elementary
JOB SUMMARY:
The Library Media Specialist is a certified professional responsible for the overall management and operation of the school library media center. This role encompasses instructional, informational, collaborative, and administrative responsibilities, all aimed at supporting the educational goals of the school and empowering students to become effective and ethical users of information and technology. The Library Media Specialist will work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, students, and parents to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment that promotes literacy, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.
MINIMAL ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaches and implements the approved library curriculum.
Operates and supervises the media center.
Collaborate with teachers to integrate library media and technology skills into the curriculum, aligning with learning objectives and content standards.
Work collaboratively with teachers in curriculum development, lesson planning, and the integration of information and technology resources.
Serve as a resource person for teachers, providing expertise on information literacy, technology integration, and available resources.
Participate in school-wide initiatives and committees to promote literacy and technology integration.
Evaluates, selects and requisitions appropriate books, aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
Assists students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data, and works with students in developing education and occupation plans consistent with such evaluation.
Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to assist in the selection of books and other instructional materials; keeps students and teaching staff informed regarding new acquisitions for use in the media center.
Serves as a ready resource to students to provide research assistance.
EDUCATION - Bachelor's Degree or higher required.
- Missouri Teacher Certification in Library Media Specialist required.
- Successful teaching in an Elementary setting preferred.
COMPENSATION: Salary will be determined based on education and years of experience. Salary for this position is in accordance with the Teacher Salary Schedule for the 2025-26 school year. This is a full-time contracted teaching position with benefits.
