Area of Responsibility:
The K-4 Elementary Principal is responsible for establishing student learning and instructional excellence as a top priority through leadership in planning, administering, and evaluating the educational program.
This role involves overseeing all aspects of the elementary school, including:
Instructional leadership and program development
Supervision and evaluation of licensed and support staff
Student services and support
Facilities management and school operations
Compliance with policies, regulations, and best practices
Effective allocation of financial and human resources
Establishing and maintaining strong community partnerships
All responsibilities should be carried out in alignment with the district’s vision, mission, and values to ensure educational excellence and integrity.
Qualifications:
Valid Minnesota Elementary Principal Certification/Licensure
Master’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
Minimum five years of successful classroom teaching experience
Experience with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
Proven ability to lead and develop staff professional development
Expertise in best instructional practices and continuous school improvement
Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
High standards of professional ethics and integrity
Proficiency in oral, written, and technology-based communication
Essential Functions:
Instructional Leadership
Provides leadership and oversight for curriculum, instruction, and student learning, ensuring alignment with district and state standards.
Fosters high student achievement through data-driven instructional decisions.
Implements and evaluates programs for special needs students to ensure equitable learning opportunities.
Conducts classroom observations and provides constructive feedback to staff.
Develops building-level procedures related to student learning, engagement, and behavior.
Staff Supervision & Professional Development
Recruits, hires, and assigns licensed and support staff.
Provides ongoing supervision, evaluation, and coaching to maintain a positive teaching and learning environment.
Leads and supports staff professional development aligned with district goals.
Promotes a collaborative and positive school culture that supports teachers and staff.
Student Services & Operations
Oversees student support services, including health, safety, and security programs in compliance with district policies.
Implements systems for student records, attendance, and discipline management.
Manages and utilizes district resources and programs to support school operations effectively.
Oversees the coordination of resource personnel and volunteer programs.
Data Management & Communication
Ensures accurate reporting of student achievement and school data.
Analyzes and disseminates data to drive continuous improvement.
Establishes effective communication with students, staff, families, and the broader community.
Encourages staff to engage in positive public relations and collaboration with stakeholders.
Facilities & Budget Management
Supervises maintenance staff and ensures safe, well-maintained school facilities.
Oversees school budgeting and fiscal management with responsibility for resource allocation, financial planning, and accountability.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
Serves as an integral member of the district leadership team, participating in district-wide initiatives and committees.
Stays current with best practices in elementary education and school administration.
Promotes a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and innovation to enhance student learning.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
