    Job Description
     
    Position:  Bus Monitor / Bus Driver
     
    Position Hours:  Full-time; Monday – Friday
     
    Length of Term/Employment:  190 days / At-will
     
    Position Summary:  The school bus monitor and floating school bus driver position combines the responsibilities of a school bus monitor with those of a floating school bus driver. This role requires ensuring the safety and well-being of students during their transportation to and from school. By blending the roles of a school bus monitor and a floating school bus driver, this position provides comprehensive support for student transportation, ensuring a safe and secure environment for students throughout their journey to and from school.
     
    Qualifications:
    • Physically able to lift, bend, stoop, climb, and reach.
    • Some custodial experience preferred.
    • Ability to assist in keeping the school clean and orderly.
    • Valid CDL with School Bus, Passenger, and Air Brakes endorsements.
     
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Minimum of 1 year experience as a school bus driver.
    • Active Region 20 bus driver training certificate.
     
    School Bus Monitor Duties:
    • Assist students in boarding and exiting the school bus safely.
    • Maintain order and discipline among students during the bus ride.
    • Ensure that students follow safety protocols and regulations.
    • Address any behavioral or safety concerns promptly and appropriately.
     
    Floating School Bus Driver Duties:
    • Safely operate the school bus according to established routes and schedules
    • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure its safety and functionality.
    • Transport students to and from school, following the designated routes.
    • Always adhere to traffic laws and regulations.
     
    Skills:
    • Operation Monitoring - Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
    • Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
    • Social Perceptiveness - Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
    • Speaking - Talking to others to convey information effectively.
    • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
    • Operation and Control - Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
     
    Other:
    • Problem Sensitivity - The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
    • Depth Perception - The ability to judge which of several objects is closer or farther away from you, or to judge the distance between you and an object.
    • Far Vision - The ability to see details at a distance.
    • Reaction Time - The ability to quickly respond (with the hand, finger, or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it appears.
    • Multi limb Coordination - The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion.
    • Response Orientation - The ability to choose quickly between two or more movements in response to two or more different signals (lights, sounds, pictures). It includes the speed with which the correct response is started with the hand, foot, or other body part.
