POSITION SUMMARY
Instruct parents of infants and pre-school children in activities designed to promote social, physical, mental health, nutritional and intellectual growth in their children in addition to performing the following duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Maintains confidentiality of information gained through the performance and location of the position.
- Recruits parents of infants and pre-school children and promotes screening opportunities.
- Travels to homes and provides in-home education and support to parents.
- Provides timely information on child’s development and parent-child activities.
- Observes and plays with child and confers with child’s parents periodically to obtain information relating to child’s mental and physical development.
- Assesses child’s development to determine levels of child’s physical and cognitive development.
- Uses curriculum lesson plans covering self-help, motor, social, cognitive, and language skills development to help parent implement learning activities at home.
- Instructs parent individually or in groups in social development, physical development, language development, and conceptual learning exercises and activities.
- Consults and coordinates plans with other professionals.
- Increases parent confidence in child-rearing activities.
- Provides screening for children from birth to kindergarten age to identify possible delays, physical problems, or advanced abilities.
- Refers children with developmental concerns to appropriate agencies.
- Additional duties may be assigned.
MARGINAL DUTIES
- Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, mentor programs, and teacher training workshops.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Contribute to the decisions made by the District regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personnel well-being.
- Perform additional tasks and assume such other responsibilities as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

- Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Elementary Education, Vocational Home Economics or Family and Consumer Sciences, and demonstrated ability to work with young children and their parents; or
- Two-year associate degree or two-year certificate program in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Nursing and demonstrated ability to work with young children and their parents or
- 60 college hours and two years of successful experience in a program working with young children and their parents
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing and interact effectively with all aspects of the school community is required.
- Ability to solve conflicts, maintain confidentiality, and remain open to various ideas and viewpoints.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations to balance assigned budget items, invoices, bills, purchase orders, and other related items.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines while complying with established policies and procedures of the building and district.
- Identifies and resolves problems promptly, gathers and analyzes information skillfully, and uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
- Ability to concentrate, think, read, and learn is necessary to perform the essential job duties.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrate organizational ability and attention to detail.
- Ability to provide assistance to the school community as necessary.
- Ability to work independently.
- Excellent human relation skills.
- Knowledge of office equipment (computers, copiers, fax machine, and related items).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
In carrying out the responsibilities of this position, the employee must regularly sit, talk, listen, and respond. The employee is required to sit frequently; engage in repetitive movements with the wrists, hands, and/or fingers; reach with their hands and arms; and talk or hear. They are often required to stand and walk. Occasionally, the employee must stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities essential for this job include close vision, distance vision, precise hand-eye coordination, and the capability to identify and distinguish colors. Occasionally, the employee may lift up to 50 pounds, such as files, papers, and equipment.
