    START DATE: 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR
    POSITION SCHEDULE: In accordance with the District Calendar + 10 days (193 days)
    SALARY RANGE:  $48,197 - $82,051  Salary dependent on years of experience & education.
    CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  School Counselor Certification  

    POSITION SUMMARY  
    • Assist students in achieving their maximum potential in the areas of personal and social development,educational growth, and vocational exploration. Establishes and implements programs that enhance specificskills and learning opportunities to ensure that every student can achieve success through academic, career,and personal/social development experiences at Hillsboro School District
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES
    • Collects, organizes, and analyzes information about individuals through records, tests, interviews, and professional sources, to appraise their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality characteristics, for vocational and educational planning.
    • Strives to establish individual relationships with students based upon personal knowledge of their interests, goals, and backgrounds.
    • Guides students in helping them to value and appreciate the opinion and contributions of others.
    • Develops and implements classroom management practices in line with district policy and promotes a positive learning environment.
    • Attends Care Team cases based on Teacher/Staff referrals for students experiencing challenges in the school environment.
    • Implements and alters existing programs for At-Risk students in order to meet district goals and improve student achievement.
    • Establishes and maintains appropriate working relationships by actively communicating with parents and attending child-related conferences.
    • Acts as a liaison and advocate on behalf of students, parents and/or staff when conflict arises.
    • Provides information relative to educational planning, scheduling and enrollment for students and parents.
    • Conducts annual studies of the at-risk population as directed by the principal.
    • Plans a program of study (Action Plan) that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the student.
    • Assists students in understanding and overcoming social and emotional problems by helping them to gain control of their social interactions and relationships with others.
    • Recognizes and refers students encountering medical, physical and/or psychological problems to district specialists as required.
    • Establishes and manages small support groups for students in each building K-6.
    • Acts as a liaison and coordinates services between school, the Children’s Division, and the juvenile office.
    • Coordinates and implements an attendance incentive program, including regular attendance checks and monitoring for chronic absenteeism.
    • Delivers and coordinates parenting workshops.
    • Organizes and administers the ACCESS (ESL/LEP) test
    • Assists in planning and delivery of Career Day K-6
    • Conducts home visits to provide resources to students and families.
    • Assists students in developing problem-solving and decision making skills.
    • Serves as a resource person for teachers, administrators and parents focusing and coordinating the school
    MARGINAL DUTIES
    • Performs research and conducts annual studies of the at-risk school population as directed by the Principal.
    • Coordinates and provides resources for families in need of assistance.
    • Distributes and coordinates holiday assistance to needy families.
    • Participates in professional organizations, professional growth activities such as appropriate seminars, courses,workshops, and staff development activities.
    • Assists with the collection and maintenance of the cumulative records of students.
    • Formulates annual recommendations to the principal for group at risk activities and carries out the agreed upon group guidance programs.
    • Contributes to the decisions made by the District and building regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personnel well-being.
    • Assists in planning and delivery of Leadership Council (K-6).

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
    • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year College or University and a minimum of one year of experience.
    • Missouri State Department of Education - Counseling Certificate, Elementary Teacher Certification
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

    • Ability to maintain confidentiality; communicate clearly both orally and in writing
    ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
    • Exposed to moderate noise levels.
