Primary Purpose:
To safely maintain discipline of students on special transportation and aid driver in any situation.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Certified in CPR and First Aid (Preferred)
Special Knowledge/ Skills:
Must be 18 years of age
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to follow written and verbal instruction
Ability to work well with children with disabilities
Knowledge of student discipline procedure
Ability to manage student behavior
May be required to submit to alcohol and drug testing program.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Student Management
Safely maintain student discipline in a positive and caring manner and report student discipline to appropriate administrator.
Maintain positive communication through proper use of School Bus Driver Communication Log.
Supervise students as they board and exit the bus and cross the street.
Learn and adapt to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
Displays professionalism in dealing with students, parents, and staff.
Supports effectively the rules and regulations governing the conduct of students while on the bus.
Routes and Schedules
Keep map folders and seating chart current.
Be familiar with all routes to and from school campus to be of assistance to the driver.
Safety
Report any involvement in an accident immediately.
Supervise use of seat belts, harnesses, or car seats by students.
Follow emergency procedures and help driver administer first aid, if necessary.
Operate equipment according to established safety procedures.
Follow established procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, assisting students, etc.
Other
Assist driver in maintaining the interior of the bus clean.
Work closely with Lead Driver to stay abreast of current information.
Be in attendance and on time to all staff meetings and in-services as required by the Director of Transportation, work irregular hours as needed and exercise professional judgment in being present and punctual at work.
Become familiar with and follow procedures established by transportation and special education offices.
Responds to suggestions for his/her route in a positive manner.
Follow established safety procedures and techniques.
Report promptly to the principal any accident or illness of staff or students.
Other duties as assigned by administration.
Promote, participate, and facilitate in a teamwork center manner.

None.

Wheelchair lift, ramp, lock, and special needs adaptive equipment.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; moderate lifting and carrying. Work outside and inside; work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes.
