JOB GOAL To teach elementary school children academic and social skills

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Prepares teaching outline for course of study
2. Lectures, demonstrates, and uses audiovisual teaching aids to present subject matter in class
3. Prepares, administers, and corrects tests and records results
4. Assigns lessons and corrects papers
5. Maintains order in classroom and on playground
6. Counsels students when adjustment and academic problems arise
7. Discusses students' academic and behavior problems with parents and suggests corrective action
8. Keeps attendance and grade records as required by school board
9. Observes students to detect signs of ill health or emotional disturbance and evaluate progress
10. Represents the school and the community in a positive manner
11. Reports to the principal when there is knowledge or reasonable suspicion that a child's health or welfare has been or appears to have been harmed as a result of abuse or neglect
12. Actively promotes the use of computer/technology to develop learning skills
13. Performs other duties as assigned

NURSE, L.P.N.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Active practical nurse license (LPN) in Tennessee
2. Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
3. Minimum one year experience as an LPN
4. Knowledge of growth and development and health problems/conditions commonly seen among school-age children
5. Knowledge of the treatment and nursing care needs of children with special health problems
6. Maintains expertise by continuing education in current treatment and care of children in school settings
7. Demonstrates competence in carrying out nursing tasks delegated by RNs

JOB GOAL
To provide nursing and other health-related activities which enhance the health and wellbeing of school children under the supervision of a licensed physician, dentist, or professional registered nurse

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Under the direction of the system wide registered nurse, the licensed practical nurse:
1. Carries out specific nursing tasks and activities identified by the RN
2. Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs
3. Maintains up-to-date individualized health records
4. Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters as directed by the RN
5. Visits student homes when necessary
6. Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures
7. Makes recommendations to the system wide RN on health needs of individual students
8. Implements board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases
9. Participates in inservice training programs
10. Performs other duties as assigned
