JOB GOAL: Provide instructional support and assistance in meeting the educational needs of students with significant support needs, under the direction and immediate supervision of a licensed school professional. Services provided may vary based on Individual Educational Plans (IEP) and requirements to provide services in the least restrictive environment. Assist student in developing functional life skills and in maintaining personal health and hygiene functions; assist students to and from classes and bus stop. REPORTS TO: Building Administrator; Licensed Teacher; Special Education Teacher EVALUATOR: Building Principal QUALIFICATIONS: - High School diploma or equivalency
- Certified as a substitute preferred
- Will operate under direct supervision of teacher and/or administrator
- Experience is a school setting and/or educational training preferred but not required
- CPR, First Aid, and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training preferred; may be required to obtain during employment for some positions
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Support instructional programs and provide instructional assistance for students in individual, small, and large group settings; reinforce lessons initiated by classroom teacher – follow up on teacher’s lesson plans
- Assist in facilitating the execution of the Individualized Educational Plans for students
- Administering, scoring, and/or recording assessment information
- Progress monitoring students
- Implement approved modifications and/or accommodations of the curriculum
- Assist special needs students in performing daily routines, including getting to and from class and bus stops, using toilets, diapering, feeding, medical needs, and personal hygiene
- Sanitize, disinfect and clean learning environment and general work area of all bodily fluids
- Facilitate and encourage speech and language development through the use of alternative communication systems
- Implement specialized therapy programs; work directly with therapists on physical progress and Individualized Education Plans (IEP)
- Assist in monitoring student health
- Collaborate and communicate with other special and regular educators and administrators with regard to academic and behavioral issues and observations
- Provide suggestions, feedback and support to building staff, administrators, parents and outside agencies regarding effective strategies for facilitating learning
- Assist licensed staff by helping with data collection, updating records, and documentation while helping maintain student files and class records
- Maintain compliance with confidentiality laws including Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA); maintain confidentiality
- Bus and classroom duty – assist drivers, teachers, students with adaptive equipment, monitoring physical welfare of student(s) as assigned
- Escorting students to library, computer room, resource room, lunchroom, etc.
- May supervise student behavior during daily activities - playground, lunchroom, study hall, field trips, etc
- Attend appropriate building meetings, in-services, school functions, and/or trainings
- Maintain a good work record/punctuality
- Perform other duties as assigned
TERMS of EMPLOYMENT; - Length of Contract Based on student contact days (no additional days)
- Length of Day 7.5 hours with 30 minute lunch
