Summary: This position requires knowledge and abilities of the full range of the food service operations found in a large school cafeteria and is the key leadership role in the cafeteria. The cafeteria manager is responsible for the operations of the entire cafeteria to ensure processes and procedures are implemented and monitored for accuracy and efficiency. The cafeteria manager must also be skilled in managing people and keeping employees motivated in order to have a successfully ran cafeteria.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Take and pass the exam for Certified Food Protection Manager
• Serves as the direct supervisor for the food service staff at the high school cafeteria location assigned.
• Implements and monitors all processes and procedures pertaining to cafeteria personnel work schedules and responsibilities.
• Must be able to work with the current food service software.
• Communicate effectively
• Monitor cafeteria production and service, and make adjustments to meet targets
• Know how to place food and supply orders, receive deliveries, and monitor inventory properly.
• Know how to perform every job in the cafeteria.
• Know how to work with every equipment in the cafeteria.
• Interview and make decisions on hiring new cafeteria employees.
• Be able to work at another school cafeteria if needed.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct supervisor of the cafeteria staff
 
 
Qualifications:
• Must be able to perform, accurately and efficiently, all the duties and responsibilities indicated here, and any other duties assigned by the Food Services Director.
• Must be computer literate and know how to work with basic computer programs like Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Google Drive.
• Physical requirements: light to moderate lifting, prolonged standing, full range of physical activity
• Must know basic mathematics
• Must be organized and detail-oriented
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written formats; in private and group settings.
• Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and work cooperatively with others.
• Meet schedules and timelines.
• Must be able to adapt successfully to frequent changes.
• Be able to work at different school locations as needed
 
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Computer literate; familiar with email, Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Drive and associated file formats. Knowledge and experience in school food service or other food service work. Must be able to obtain certification for Certified Food Protection Manager from an accredited course. Education and employment history must reflect punctual and regular attendance. Desire to work cooperatively with fellow workers, teachers, students, parents, and the general public. Such alternatives to these qualifications as the Superintendent may deem appropriate and acceptable.
