ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. - Cleans and maintains restrooms according to defined procedures
- Cleans and maintains hard surface floors according to defined procedures
- Cleans and maintains carpet floors according to defined procedures
- Cleans and maintains administrative office and related areas
- Cleans and maintains equipment and supplies
- Cleans diffusers, vents, light fixtures, conduits, beams, etc.
- Washes windows inside and outside when needed
- Conducts ongoing maintenance, upkeep, repairs, including changing light bulbs, cleaning out toilets with the sewer auger, cutting off water at valves, cutting off equipment, tightening and/or replacing bolts and screws, replacing chair and desk guides, replacing casters, etc.
- Reports major repairs and/or damage to lead custodian, principal or assistant principal promptly
- Assist with pest control functions and measures
- Moves furniture or equipment within building as required for various activities directed
- Remains on school premises during school hours and as otherwise required by the principal
- Complies with laws and procedures for the storage of chemicals and disposal of trash
- Assists and coordinates efforts with the Principal/Custodian and Warehouse Supervisor/Maintenance Supervisor/Facilities Director and other divisions of the maintenance department, when necessary
- Attends and participates in all recommended training and safety instructions and classes for employees
- Responsible for all parts, tools, equipment, and vehicles assigned to them.
- Cooperates with all levels of other school system employees and maintains a good working relationship.
- Abides by laws and local codes, as well as department and school system policies and procedures
- Complies with laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of chemicals, debis, oils, grease, trash and other by-products of work efforts
- Maintains professional conduct at all times.
- Attends the necessary training courses and continuing education required to maintain certifications and licenses.
- Maintains timesheets, logs, paperwork and data related to the work efforts and progress in a timely manner.
- Follows work schedule and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable and punctual manner, as well as the ability to adapt to an extended/flexible work schedule
- Performs other duties as assigned

Some Incumbents (as assigned) - Keeps inventory of supplies and equipment. Orders replacement through the principal far enough in advance to ensure custodial duties are not affected.
- Opens and/or closes the building each day. Ensures all doors and windows are locked and lights off (except those left on for safety reasons) before leaving.
- Conduct inspections of cleanliness of the buildings and grounds.
- Operate tractors, lawn and garden equipment, sprayers, tools, etc. that are necessary to maintain school grounds, sports fields, lawns, planted beds, and gardens.
- Operate school vehicles and trailers
- Work from the school assigned man lift upon receiving proper training.
- Maintain school designated tractors, lawn and garden equipment, custodian equipment and tools.
- Picks up trash around exterior of building and parking daily
- Maintains school grounds: cuts grass and weeds, trims limbs, prunes bushes
