    Job Summary

    The Security Systems Lead oversees all aspects of security electronics installations and maintenance across the district.  The incumbent serves as a proactive leader by engaging with various stakeholders, managing projects, and providing expertise in access control, video surveillance, mechanical locks, two-way radios, and building intercom systems
     
    Essential Functions
     
    • Participates in preconstruction meetings and contributes to the design of both new and existing projects, ensuring adherence to district security standards.
    • Conducts on-site assessments for job cost estimations and compiles lists of necessary parts for security installations.
    • Prepares and submits job estimates for capital projects to facilitate school approval and budget planning.
    • Manages the incoming parts for all security jobs and maintains stock levels for the shop’s inventory.
    • Generates reorder forms proactively to avoid shortages and ensure technician readiness.
    • Provides remote and onsite technical support to ensure efficient operations for journeyman technicians, including locksmiths and security specialists.
    • Oversees training sessions to enhance the technical competencies of the team in handling security systems.
    • Collaborates with school administration to schedule capital and maintenance work orders, meeting district standards and addressing site-specific challenges.
    • Is available for 24/7 call-outs, providing immediate assistance during after-hours emergencies.
    • Designs and implements site-specific access control systems tailored to community needs while ensuring compliance with district protocols.
    • Manages the district-wide access card user database, overseeing the issuance and deactivation of access credentials.
    • Maintains and updates access control servers for optimal operation and scheduled door management.
    • Leads the design and implementation of complex camera systems that meet district surveillance requirements.
    • Oversees the installation, management, and maintenance of network video recorders and cameras across the district.
    • Ensures secure video recovery processes and provides necessary footage for law enforcement as required.
    • Conducts assessments of hardware needs at district facilities and provides detailed recommendations for installations.
    • Designs and implements complex master key systems to enhance security across all district sites.
    • Shares advanced knowledge of mechanical hardware with technicians to improve installation practices.
    • Performs site surveys to evaluate and improve radio communication coverage across all district facilities.
    • Manages the installation and tuning of communication devices and oversees vendor programming to ensure connectivity.
    • Provides technical support for radio communication issues and oversees repairs to maintain operational efficiency.
    • Oversees the integration and maintenance of building intercom systems, ensuring optimal functionality and communication flow within facilities.

    Required Knowledge and Skills
     
    • Comprehensive understanding of the practical theory of electronic technology.
    • Foundational knowledge of basic electrical theory.
    • Excellent technical skills and knowledge in access control, surveillance systems, mechanical locks, radios, and intercoms.
    • Proficient knowledge of various electronics-related test equipment, including multimeters, signal tracing devices, power supplies, frequency counters, and oscilloscopes.
    • Familiarity with vehicle wiring and an understanding of vehicle safety codes and warranties.
    • Skills in performing mechanical tasks and using all relevant hand tools.
    • Basic computer skills.
    • Ability to learn and understand a range of related computer hardware and software.
    • Proficient in diagnosing problems and utilizing problem-solving skills to address identified issues.
    • Basic math skills.
    • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while maintaining a positive and helpful attitude.
    • Skills in reading and creating schematics using electronic industry symbols and codes.
    • Strong awareness of safety issues and equipment limitations.
    • Proficient in soldering for the removal of surface mount components.
    • Strong skills in project leadership.

    Required Education and Qualifications
     
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Two years of relevant formal training in electronics, electronics theory, and repair.
    • Requires a valid driver’s license.
    • Requires completion of training in working around, handling, and treatment of asbestos provided by Granite School District.
      
    Required Prior Experience
     
    • Requires a minimum of four (4) years of successful experience in a related area.
      
    Note: The district reserves the right to make specific requirements for this position, however, when prior work experience has been evaluated to be particularly pertinent, some exchanges between training and experience may be authorized.
     
    Assigned Decision Making
     
    • Develops plans for preventive maintenance of all police and security electronic systems, including security, two-way radios, and other police-related systems.
    • Establishes specifications for supply purchases and parts procurement.
    • Determines whether to repair or replace the equipment.
    • Prioritizes and schedules work effectively and efficiently.
    • Collaborates with school and district administrators to determine the best practices for using and installing electronic equipment.
     
    Interactions with Others
     
    • Interacts and collaborates with maintenance employees, custodians, inspectors, contractors, district and school administration, vendors, and the public.

    Supervisory Responsibility
     
    • Trains, assigns work to, and monitors assistants, hourly employees and other technicians on a regular basis.
    • In the absence of the Shop Foreman and Assistant Foreman, maintains the continuity of work in the department.

    Working Environment
     
    • Work occurs in environments of cold, heat, dust, dirt, noise, moisture, chemical exposure, high voltage, varied heights, and confined spaces.
    • Special equipment and suits are required when working around hazardous materials such as asbestos.
    • Emergencies may require irregular hours.
    • A high percentage of work is performed at height; requires working from ladders and various types of personnel lifts.
