    NETWORK HARDWARE TECHNICIAN
    Summary
    Performs professional work of considerable difficulty to maintain, implement and enhance the District’s technology throughout the district in carrying out the District’s Strategic Plan.

    Distinguishing Characteristics

    Network Hardware Technician - Perform preventative maintenance on workstations, servers, printers, other devices, and networking components. Routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the job including the installation, configuration of district LAN/WAN systems. Duties include but are not limited to installation of LAN/WAN hardware and associated cabling; maintenance of District video security systems and electronic door access systems; and maintenance and installation of PBX and VOIP telephony systems.

    Receives general supervision from the Network Coordinator / Security and Door Access Supervisor
    Essential Function Statements – Essential duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
    1. Perform preventative maintenance on workstations, printers, cameras, door access systems and networking components.
    2. Perform work and provide guidance and direction in the proper analysis, design, configuration, and operation of computer information systems, including hardware, operating system software and end user applications.
    3. Provides network assistance to users in the areas of network problem resolution, including network access, wireless access, and Internet access.
    4. Educates staff on the intent of LAN/WAN system guidelines to users to promote their understanding and ensure systems operate efficiently and effectively; trains department users and provides technical assistance as needed.
    5. Recommends quality or internal control standards: Resolves unusual and complex problems and issues regarding the effective design, development, maintenance and or enhancement of LAN/WAN systems.
    6. Performs installation, servicing and aiming of security cameras, door access systems, and other peripheral security systems.
    7. Must uphold the confidentiality of live footage and recordings through the security camera system.
    8. Participates in the development of plans, policies, and procedures for carrying out technology and telecommunications operations.
    9. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
    Qualifications
    Network Hardware Technician
    Knowledge of:
    • Basic principles, capabilities, and operations of computer systems.
    • Basic computer networking design and operations.
    • Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.
    • Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers.
    • Written communication techniques for report writing and preparing correspondence, policies and procedures.
    Ability to:
    Learn to analyze and resolve system problems.
    Learn to apply and utilize network analysis principles, practices, theories, concepts, methods, and standards.
    Learn to prepare clear and concise reports.
    Maintain complete and accurate records.
    Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
    Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions and demonstrating intellectual capabilities.
    To be able to access systems while using a ladder.
    To terminate data network cables with RJ 45 or Keystone Cable ends.
     
    Experience and Training Guidelines
    Experience:
    Two years of professional level management information systems experience performing the full range of duties of analyzing, planning, and designing a management information system, is desirable.
    Education:
    It is desirable for applicants to have an equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer technology, or a related field.
    License or Certificate:
    Possession of or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
     
    Physical Requirements: Ability to perform the job and access the environment for which you are hired. The following may be required: Siting, standing, lifting, moving about the room or school, carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing, physical ability to type on a keyboard terminal, and moving light furniture.
    Equipment/Technology Handled: Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.
    Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated an able to complete job assignment without direct supervisions. After hour work may be required.

    Terms of Employment: Salary and work calendar established yearly by the district.
