To provide technical and advanced assistance to assigned specialists or professionals in delivering the educational plan, and meeting the goals and objectives of the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) of assigned student(s).

Supervision Received and Exercised:
 
Receives immediate supervision from assigned higher level staff.
 
Essential Function Statements - Essential duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Assist specialist/professional in delivering the educational plan and meeting the goals and objectives of the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) to assigned student(s).
2. Assist in implementing daily activity lesson plans and curriculum as developed in the IEP by appropriate specialist or professional.
3. Assist teacher/professional in maintaining appropriate files and records; attach all supporting documentation; ensure confidentiality of all records and files.
4. Assist students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
5. Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes, and assistive technology.
6. Assist with supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch and field trips.
7. Assist physically challenged student(s) with eating, dressing, personal hygiene and mobility functions when needed, e.g., in self-help, feeding and personal hygiene skills; in fin/gross motor skills; in adaptive competencies leading to independence.
8. Assist in providing special medical needs of students.
9. Provide close supervision for students with behavior problems in the classroom and supports the teacher's management system.
Marginal Functions:
1. Deliver educational services to children who are homebound due to health limitations, and/or distance from school, etc.
2. Daily travel from site to site, and from home to home.
3. Prepare regular and special diet meals; operate choppers, blenders, mixers, and other equipment; and make adjustments to regulate ovens, or other cooking equipment.
4. Assist in serving meals, paying particular attention to portioning, garnishing and meeting Federal meal requirements on each meal served.
Qualification Requirements
 
Knowledge of:
• Classroom management.
• Cultural diversities of the local area and the traditional Native American beliefs of students and families.

• Administer and provide emergency first aid services to children.
• Promote positive child behavior and a safe and healthy environment.
• Handle and maintain the records of students in a confidential manner.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing in the English language.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Maintain mental capacity which allows for effective interaction and communication with others.
• Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
• Understand and respect the cultural diversities, and Native American traditional beliefs and practices, of students and their families.
Experience and Education Guidelines:
Any combination of experience and training would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities are qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
• Experience:  Some related experience including public contact is desirable.
 
• Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.
Licensure:
• Possession of, or ability to obtain a Level I Educational Assistant License from the New Mexico Public Education Department.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid First Aid certificate.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain a Food Handler's Permit, if required.

General Job Description: The Secondary teacher will provide guidance and instructional experiences that are academically and developmentally appropriate for students. The teacher is held accountable to the New Mexico Teacher Competencies and Domains. The teacher will also deliver State and District curriculum and provide equal educational opportunities for all students.

Qualifications: A BA degree, valid New Mexico teaching license with endorsements as needed.  Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
 
Physical Requirements: Ability to perform the job and access the environment for which you are hired.  The following may be required: Sitting, standing, lifting, moving about the room or school, carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing, physical ability to type on a keyboard terminal, and moving light furniture.
 
Equipment/Technology Handled: Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology. 
 
Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality.  Interruptions of work are routine.  Flexibility and patience are required.  Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision.  After-hours work may be required.
 
Terms of Employment: Salary and work calendar established yearly by the district.

Gallup-McKinley County Schools: 2025-2026 SY Incentives
 
          Relocation Expenses for New Teachers
          All New Classroom Teachers & SPED Teachers
                   300+ miles: $3,000
 
          Signing Incentive for New Teachers
          McKinley County Graduates (HS): $20,000
          NM Graduates (HS or College) or Within Navajo Nation Boundaries: $18,500
          All Others: $17,000
 
Signing Incentives
Relocation incentive for all new teachers, counselors and administrators will be paid in full on the first paycheck of the school year.
All other incentives for teachers, and counselors will be paid out over the course of two school years in four installments. Payment will be made ¼ in December of the first contract year, ¼ in May of the first contract year, ¼ in December of the second contract year and ¼ in May of the second contract year. The incentive will be prorated for hires made after the official work calendar start date but prior to December 31, 2025. Any hires made on or after December 31, 2025, will not be eligible to receive the signing incentives listed above. Failure to complete the terms of the employment contract in either/both of the two school years will result in the forfeiture of the entire signing incentive and relocation incentive. Signing Incentives are effective February 3, 2025.
 
Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible for the signing incentives, you must be a new employee who was not employed in any position or certified capacity by GMCS during the 2024-2025 school year. For the relocation incentive, you cannot have received a relocation incentive within the last two (2) years to qualify for the Relocation Incentive for SY 25-26.
• Exception: Employees moving job class level up to new position (EA to Teacher or Teacher to Principal)
 
Administration will provide processes and administrative clarification/decision for specific situations that involve these incentives. This includes creating rules to support the incentives' successful implementation.
