    Position Purpose
    Responsible for supporting the music programs by maintaining all Fort Worth ISD pianos including general tuning, repair and concert tuning and preparation.

     

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

     
    • Maintains operation of pianos by establishing maintenance and repair schedules; completing preventive maintenance requirements following operations manuals and manufacturer's instructions; tuning and preparing pianos for concerts.
    • Repairs pianos by discussing problems with users; replacing or adjusting functional parts, using hand and power tools.
    • Documents inventory by recording additions, disbursements, adjustments, losses, and removals of items. Orders and maintains an inventory of parts.
    • Fabricates parts and tools that are not available from the manufacturer.
    • Confers with vendors and manufactures on parts availability.
    • Researches, evaluates, and assists in specifications and the purchase of pianos.
    • Evaluates and provides input for the purchase of pianos.
    • Assists instructors when specific instrument problems occur.
     
    Safety
     
    • Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
    • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
    • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
     
    • Knowledge of District policies, procedures, and regulations.
    • Knowledge of interpersonal communication techniques
    • Knowledge of instruction, facilitation, and training techniques as applied to music
    • Knowledge of repair of musical instruments.
    • Knowledge of pitch, range, and intonations of a variety of instruments.
    • Knowledge of piano tuning
    • Skill in general tuning, repair and maintenance of pianos
    • Skill in reading information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information
    • Skilled work in diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing musical instruments.
    • Ability to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication
    • Ability to perform concert tuning, regulating and voicing
    • Ability to supervise and coordinate a program of piano maintenance
    • Ability to distinguish sound, pitch, and intonations.
    • Ability to test and repair musical instruments for proper operation
    • Ability to communicate via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions
    • Ability to work independently
     
    Travel Requirements
     
    • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
     
    Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards
     
    • Tools/Equipment Used:  Piano tuning/repair tools and equipment, standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals.
    • Posture:  Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
    • Motion:  Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
    • Lifting:  Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
    • Environment:  Works in an office setting; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours.
    • Attendance:  Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
    • Mental Demands:  Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
     
    Minimum Required Qualifications
     
    • Education:
      • Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required.
      • Bachelors degree from accredited college or university in a related field preferred.
    • Certification/License: 
      • RPT classification in Piano Technicians Guild preferred
    • Experience:  2 years’ professional experience in concert tuning, regulation and voicing required.
