The Festus School District has an immediate opening for the position of:
Bus Mechanic


 
Qualifications:          Minimum of HS Diploma. Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B, School Bus Endorsement (S), and Passenger Endorsement (P). This classification of driver license will qualify this person to drive a school bus/vehicle weight over 26,001 pounds and transport students if needed.
 
Experience:              Repair and preventative maintenance of heavy equipment. Repair and preventative maintenance of school buses and other motor vehicles preferred. 
 
Position Goal:          Maintain the Festus R-VI Transportation Fleet, providing a safe and efficient means to transport students to and from school.
 
Rate of Pay:              $26.00 per hour minimum.  Pay rate dependent upon prior experience & education.  Benefits included (Retirement, Health & Dental Insurance)

Essential Duties:
• Plan and implement a program of scheduled preventative maintenance of the district bus fleet.
• Perform mechanical repairs on buses to include major overhauls if directed, as necessary.
• Make emergency service calls for stranded buses or other district equipment.
• Make recommendations to the supervisor for ordering and stocking all necessary repair parts and supplies.
• Maintain the shop area in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
• Assist in the service and repair of other district motor vehicles and equipment as needed.
• Maintain, repair, and inspect tires and rims, and maintain records of district vehicles.
• Perform complete safety inspections as required.
• Estimate time, material, and equipment needed for assigned jobs.
• Operate school vehicles.
• Repair, replace and maintain

  • Electrical Systems
  • Air and Hydraulic brake systems
  • Diesel and Gas engines
  • Drive train components
  • Vehicle HVAC Systems
  • Transmissions
  • Drive line and rear axles
  • Suspension and steering components
• Maintain accurate repair records
• Inspection duties
• Assist in the service and repair of school vehicles as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
