The District will employ certified substitute teachers, those who are working toward New York State Teacher certification and those with a bachelor's degree.

Compensation: The rate of pay is determined annually by the Board of Education. The rate of pay for the 2024-2025 school year is $120 per school day for non-certified substitute teachers, those working toward New York State certification and those with a bachelor's degree, $130 per school day for certified substitute teachers, $145 per school day for retired teachers and $155 per school day for retired Fairport teachers. Payroll dates for substitutes are the same as those for all staff members, paid bi-monthly (15
th and 30
th). After thirty (30) consecutive work days in the same assignment, the substitute teacher is placed on Level A, Step I of the teacher's schedule and is paid according to this schedule.
Assignment Procedure:- Our School District uses an Automated Substitute System called Frontline. On occasion, a building administrator or secretary may contact a substitute directly.
- Calls are made to the person(s) who may best fill the position required. It is sometimes possible to call a substitute in advance; however, typically the substitute will receive a call after 5:30a.m. Substitutes for teachers with a planned absences (conferences, etc.) are normally called in advance.
- How often the substitute is called will depend upon the area(s) of certification, the number of substitutes available, the normal availability of an individual substitute, and the past performance of the substitute.
- Substitutes should be able to leave home on very short notice, since they may be called at any time. When a substitute teacher is on duty, he/she should continue in the assignment until officially released. In most cases, the school will know by. dismissal time whether the regular teacher is going to return the following day. A substitute should check with the administrator or secretary before leaving the building.
General Duties: - As a substitute teacher you will need to demonstrate flexibility, understanding, cooperation and dedication to your position. The District recognizes and appreciates these qualities in our substitute teachers as this helps to ensure that our students continue to receive everything they need to be successful when their teacher is away from the classroom.
- Substitutes should report to work at least 30 minutes prior to the opening of school and check with the building principal or secretary regarding their assignment, unless other arrangements have been made with the school. If you receive a call late, please arrive as soon as possible.
- Substitutes will be provided with their daily schedule when they arrive at the school building. Each substitute will have a lunch period of no less than 30 minutes per day if the substitute works a full day.
Salary: $120.00 per day for Uncertified Substitutes: no teaching experience necessary, Bachelor's degree in OR college coursework toward certification in an accredited college education program is required.
