Job Title: Special Education Teacher
Reports to: Building Administrator
JOB SUMMARY:
The special education teacher is responsible for the effective operation of the special education duties and implementation of the Elevate Academy special education philosophy. The teacher will supervise the special education caseload and be part of a collaborative team. They will foster the development of the special educational program, embrace a culture of positive, engaged team members, and serve as a strong advocate for the school’s 6 core tenants and inclusive culture to serve the needs of all Elevate students.
The teacher will work closely with the Elevate Academy director special education and the schools special education team to provide an inclusive special education model. The teacher will support effective inclusive strategies, managing timelines, creating effective and compliant IEP’s and managing all other compliance related tasks.
The special education teacher will work collaboratively with the administration to provide consistent and effective school leadership for the special education department.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Special educational caseload management.
Embody, advocate for, and execute on the mission, vision and strategic direction of the special education department.
Foster teacher leadership and shared decision making.
Participate in professional development, for special education and Elevate related topics.
Ensure educational and regulatory compliance at all governmental levels for special education.
Respond to and be aware of information received from various agencies including Idaho Department of Education, State Board of Education, and Charter School Commission.
Follow department procedures, methods and practice.
Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations including, but not limited to, IEPs, Medicaid, record keeping, testing, and communication data.
Assist in the recruitment and selection of the special education staff.
Establish and maintain professional and cooperative working relationships.
Maintain an accessible presence to the school community.
Communicate issues, concerns, and needs to the building administration.
Maintain frequent and regular communications with families as appropriate.
Prepares related reports and records as required by the school division, local, state, or federal government.
The teacher will perform other duties as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Will directly supervise students.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Valid Idaho Special Education Certification
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to operate personal and mainframe computers and related software. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all related corporation policies and state requirements.
