The position of Transportation Field Trip Clerk/Dispatcher will be available immediately at the Department of Transportation.  All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in the position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. PRIMARY FUNCTION:  Assume duties and responsibilities as related to dispatching, routing and scheduling buses and employees for all district field trips.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Open/close office and assure all personnel are on time for duties.
2. Dispatch drivers and vehicles on a daily basis.
3. Monitor and respond to two-way radio communications.
4. Receive, record, and report driver and bus monitor absence calls.
5. Assign substitute drivers and monitors for morning and afternoon shifts as needed.
6. Assign buses for all routes.
7. Be familiar with all routes and main streets in the East Central ISD.
8. Respond to driver requests for assistance and dispatch tow trucks, emergency services, and additional equipment as needed.
9. Assist in communicating late buses to the community through use of Parentlink.
10. Coordinate requests for extracurricular transportation and arrange for drivers and appropriate equipment as needed.
11. Communicate with campus/departments to schedule all district trip requests.
12. Communicate with fuelers and washers to ensure vehicle prep.
13. Communicate with the shop foreman on vehicle availability.
14. Coordinate with DOT Director / Coordinator regarding employee attendance. 
15. Finalize trip tickets at Central Office/Transfinder.
16. Maintain the field trip board – assign vehicles and staff.
17. Compile, maintain, and file all logs, worksheets, files, and reports related to dispatch operations. 
18. Coordinate with shop foreman to replace down buses.
19. Input daily mileages for TEA state reports.
20. Make/receive phone calls to and from the public and school staff as necessary to provide good communication of current conditions.
21. Assure that drivers have current map and route descriptions.
22. On-call during nights and weekends to assist disabled buses.
23. Perform data entry and inquiry functions.
24. Maintain an exemplary attendance record.
25. Maintain strict confidentiality in all existing problems with drivers.
26. Drive a route bus as directed by the department Director/Coordinator/Manager.
27. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of district streets & campuses
Experience:

Position Function/Purpose:  The driver will be expected to operate a school bus and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of students and other authorized persons on the assigned route and to and from other designated locations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
 
1. Follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules
2. Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities
3. Check bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notify supervisor of needed repairs
4. Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failures.  Complete required reports.
5. Keep the assigned bus clean.  Meet all safety and sanitation requirements per your department supervisors.
6. Supervise students while they board and leave the bus and cross the street. 
7. Communicate w/teachers and parents on a daily basis regarding student behavior while on the bus.

9. Instruct students on safe riding rules and regulations
10. Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.

12. Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crow bar, and reflector.
13. Correct unsafe conditions in the work area that could cause an accident and inform the supervisor of any conditions that are not correctable immediately.
14. Report any hazardous conditions along the route.
15. Operate two-way radio equipment to communicate with the transportation office.
16. Work irregular hours as needed.
17. Attend and complete required training programs to maintain safety certification.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:  Coordinate district’s transportation and vehicle maintenance program.  Oversee maintenance of all district-owned vehicles.  Ensure safe and efficient operation of the transportation department.

23. Recommend disposal of obsolete or worn-out vehicles and equipment. Recommend purchase of vehicles as necessary.
24. Monitor fuel deliveries and distribution. 
25. Evaluate employee job performance to ensure effectiveness.
26. Attend and make presentations at conferences and school board meetings to discuss innovations and problems in transportation.
27. Provide data to compile, maintain, file, and present all reports, records, and other documents required in the transportation area.
