POSITION: Accountant
LOCATION: Central Office
JOB SUMMARY: The Accountant plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient management of financial resources within the school district. This position is responsible for overseeing salary and travel reconciliation, managing purchasing card transactions, and maintaining accurate position control records. The incumbent will collaborate closely with various departments to uphold compliance standards, optimize financial operations, and support strategic decision-making.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field;
- Previous experience in financial analysis, accounting, or budget management roles, preferably within a school district or educational institution;
- Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel;
- Experience with ERP systems and purchasing card management platforms;
- Familiarity with state and federal regulations governing educational finance and compliance practices;
- Knowledge of salary administration, travel policies, and financial compliance;

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: - Reconciles purchasing card transactions on a regular basis, verifying the accuracy of charges and ensuring adherence to spending guidelines;
- Investigates discrepancies and resolve any issues in a timely manner;
- Generates reports to track purchasing card usage and identify opportunities for cost savings;
- Uploads all purchasing card transactions to the general ledger, monthly;
- Monitors and reconciles employee salary payments, ensuring alignment with contractual agreements and budget allocations;
- Reviews and reconciles travel expenses, including reimbursements and allowances, in accordance with travel policies;
- Provides support and guidance to staff regarding expense reporting and reimbursement procedures;
- Maintains accurate position control records, tracking staffing allocations and budgetary implications;
- Coordinates with human resources and department heads to ensure proper documentation of position changes, transfers, and vacancies;
- Generates reports to analyze staffing trends and forecast future resource needs;
- Oversees and coordinates updates to the Finance Department’s section of the school district’s website;
- Ensures that information related to financial policies, procedures, and resources is accurate and up to date;
- Collaborates with web development and content management teams to implement changes and enhancements as needed;
- Ensures compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and audit requirements;
- Assists in preparing financial reports and presentations for internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies;
- Participates in audits and reviews, providing documentation and support as needed;
- Performs other tasks as assigned by Supervisor.
REPORTS TO: Director of Finance
SALARY RANGE: Competitive salary and excellent benefits package, in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide
