EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
RN with a BA.
Preferred: An RN with an ISBE Professional Educator License endorsed as a Certified School Nurse.
Experience working with children.
SUMMARY: Assesses students and staff requiring the direct services of a nurse. Provides health care for involved students and assists in the implementation of required health care procedures. Maintains health records.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned.
Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
Works with teachers and staff on screening students for health defects.
Administers and keeps records of issuance of medication as prescribed by physicians.
Assists with parent conferences.
Maintains liaison between physicians, parents and staff.
If qualified, may assist in the development of health care plans and 504 plans for students in need of nursing interventions during the school day.
If qualified, may actively participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team in the evaluation of students being evaluated for placement into special education programs.
If qualified, may write the health component of the IEP as indicated.
Coordinates the implementation of the plan with parents, teachers and through home visits.
Communicates with primary care physician on health needs of individual students.
Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records, including immunization records on all students requiring nursing intervention.
Communicates with parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies on student health matters.
Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures and district policy.
Implements board policy on exclusion and re admission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
Works with teams to train students related to handicap, health and hygiene.
Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
Works with the staff to provide a safe and secure school environment.
Participates in screening referral services.
Maintains the medical alert list, susceptible list and health problems list.
Works as a team member to meet the needs of inclusion students.
Assumes responsibility for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered an illness, injury or emergency medical issue during school hours.
Prepares state and local reports (vision, hearing, immunization, dental, etc.)
Obtains and maintains professional certification for vision, hearing and CPR.
Keeps an inventory of supplies and equipment needed to maintain nurse's office.
Performs related duties as required.
This is a substitute, on call position.
Salary is $31.00 per hour; no benefits are associated with the position.
