NATURE OF POSITION:
The Director of Advancement must demonstrate a love for young people and a commitment to Catholic education. Within the context of the school’s mission statement and policies the Director administers, strategizes, and coordinates the school’s advancement, marketing, and enrollment program, which raise restricted and unrestricted gifts to maintain and enhance the current and future stability of the school, increases awareness of the school within the community, and draws new students to the school. They must provide leadership in all fund development efforts; initiate innovative approaches to building the school’s donor constituency; help to create an environment for philanthropy to flourish; and encourage enrollment growth of the school. The Director must exhibit broad, creative, and strategic thinking. The Director of Advancement must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with an exceptional ability to build relationships.
Reporting Function: As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director reports directly to the Principal.
SUPERVISES: Volunteers, Marketing Assistant
Major Areas of Responsibility
- All fundraising efforts, which include: annual appeals, capital campaigns, endowment campaigns, grant writing, planned giving efforts, business development, sponsorships, foundations and in-kind donations. A minimum of 50% of time should be spent on this work.
- Identify, cultivate and solicit major gift prospects of $10,000+ and maintaining and managing a major gift portfolio of prospects. The Director should conduct a minimum of four face-to-face meetings per month with major donors and prospective donors.
- Develop strategies and oversee the implementation of all advancement vehicles and activities.
- Collaboratively develop and supervise the integration and execution of special event programs that are consistent with the goals, strategies, and objectives of the institutional advancement plan.
- Facilitate and coordinate foundation/corporation cultivation, research and proposals.
- Develop and manage cultivation strategies and programs with particular emphasis on alumni development.
- Develop a strategic marketing plan that includes public relations, marketing strategies and collateral materials.
- Develops, implements, and oversees a comprehensive communications program with all constituents.
- Coordinates the school and constituency promotion of the EITC program.
- Assist donors understand and submit SPE program paperwork.
- Donor database management and IRS compatibility.
- Administer, manage, and monitor all database functions.
- Hold responsibility for the accuracy of all contributions and pledges input into the database.
- Hold responsibility for authorizing pledge write-offs.
- Facilitate the receipt of donor-restricted funds and insure implementation according to donor’s wishes and assist donors with knowledgeable advice pertaining to current Internal Revenue Service rulings as appropriate.
- Lead, supervise and annually evaluate the performance of the various staff within the advancement office.
- Coordinate open houses, enrollment drives, and prospective student visits with the principal. The Director will strive to meet enrollment goals set in the school’s strategic plan.
- The Director will provide an in-person report at all School Board meetings.

- Ability to establish cooperative, tactful, effective and harmonious working relationships with a diverse group of individuals, ranging from the Pastor, administration, school board members, corporate leaders, faculty, staff, alumni, volunteers and the general public.
EDUCATIONAL/WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in communications, finance and/or marketing or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a comparable field with five to eight years’ experience in a comparable position.
- Experience in the Development field is preferred.
- Experience in managing EITC funding is required.
- Experience in the Enrollment Field is preferred.
- Experience running direct mail and advertising campaigns for planned giving is required.
- Continuing education is required to maintain knowledge of tax codes affecting charitable giving and to maintain a level of knowledge and skills required to serve as a school Director of Advancement. This is accomplished by reading material related to the profession, by attending workshops or conventions, and by participating in local, regional, and diocesan professional organizations as approved and appropriate.
- This position requires specific knowledge of the Catholic Church organization and procedures or experience in a complex multi-unit organization (perferably nonprofit) with a service orientation.
- Practicing Catholic is required.
- Position requires a valid driver's license.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle, and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. Lifts and moves items up to 20 pounds.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Incumbent is required to perform extensive computer work in a school or office setting. Job duties will require the employee to manage evening/weekend meetings and attend school events and functions.
