PreK (4-year-olds) Classroom / Teacher's Aide
Part-Time (7:45 am to 3 pm) for the 2025-2026 School Year

St. Joseph School, York is seeking a PreK classroom aide for the 2024-2025 school year. Beginning in August 2024, this ten-month position requires an enthusiastic individual who can effectively interact with students to assist in their intellectual, physical, social and emotional development and work cooperatively with school staff and administration to support the mission of SJY through fidelity to policies and practices while completing daily tasks which may include:
- Supervise and support students in non-instructional areas such as student lunch programs, car line duty, actively monitoring recess, and transitions between classes.
- Regularly assist with student health and safety protocols.
- Provides support to homeroom teachers to include assigned clerical duties, making copies, changing bulletin boards, etc.
- Serve in a substitute role when necessary.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: - Minimum of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent and some on-the-job training.
- Preferred an associate's degree or bachelor's degree in education, childcare, or a related field
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
Job training is typically done by the employer who helps a new teacher's aide understand the rules and operations of the workplace. Teacher's aides must know the appropriate responses when dealing with children and how to properly show educational materials to the classroom. Additionally, learning to follow the instructions of a teacher is extremely important.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Ability to see at normal distance. Hear normal conversations and sounds. Physical ability to bend, squat, sit on floor, skip, run, and climb stairs, as part of daily center activities. Able to crouch to a child’s height, maintain eye contact at the child’s level, sit on the floor, and stand tall enough to reach children on the highest piece of equipment. Ability to safely lift or assist children weighing up to 40 pounds in emergency situations only. Ability to reach a child 30 feet away within 30 seconds without danger to the staff person’s health. Ability to effectively use hands and fingers to fill out paper work.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: - May be required to work outside.
