General Job Description:
The instructor will provide the highest quality and technologically advanced educational opportunities for students in a professional and a caring environment. While adhering to Upper Valley Career Center approved curriculum and Ohio Academic Standards, the instructor will direct the learning experiences of the students, including skill development, human relations, and leadership qualities which are necessary to obtain gainful employment.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction that promotes collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving
Provide high quality instruction that advances scientific knowledge, inquiry, and reasoning
Provide student-centered feedback that supports learning and growth
Create a positive and supportive classroom environment
Communicate student progress with parents/guardians and relevant colleagues
Collaborate with other Science department staff to develop lesson plans, teaching strategies, curriculum, and student interventions
Possess awareness of current events and incorporate these events and themes into lessons to make them more relevant to students
Show commitment to continuous improvement and professional growth
Utilize technology to enhance student learning
Qualifications:
Must hold or qualify for a valid Ohio high school Integrated Science License or other high school Science license.
Preference will be given to those who are College Credit Plus certified.
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching in a Career Tech environment.
Proven experience teaching life sciences at the high school level, with a strong knowledge of conservation, biology, anatomy, and other relevant topics (i.e., chemistry, physics, physical science, environmental science, forensics, etc.).
Employ compassion, understanding, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Show resilience and the ability to work with others.
Meet all mandated health screening requirements.
Maintain a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment. Able to successfully pass a BCI/FBI background check.
Maintain compliance with drug-free workplace rules, Board policies, and other applicable procedures/guidelines.
Salary:
Appropriate placement on the Certificated Salary Schedule to be determined by education and experience. Salary will range from $51,017.00 (Class II, Step 0) to $84,160.00 (Class V, Step 10). Base contract is 187 days Minimum workday is 7 hours per day exclusive of a lunch break . One-year contract with opportunity for renewal.

Performance Evaluation:
Job performance is evaluated according to policy provisions and contractual agreements adopted by the Upper Valley Career Center.
