POSITION: Assistant Building Principal
REPORTS TO: Superintendent or Designee
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full Time, 194 Days, FLSA Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership or related field
Administrative licensure through the Ohio Department of Education
Minimum of five years teaching experience, preferably at the high school level
Willingness to work with students, faculty, staff and community partners as a team member
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent organizational and technology skills
Must pass a criminal background check
Hold a valid Ohio Driver’s License
Complies with drug-free workplace rules and policies
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Assistant Building Principal assists the Building Principal’s in leading and managing the instructional program as well as assisting in the supervision of personnel. They also coordinate assigned student activities and services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Participate in development and evaluation of educational programs.
Ensure implementation of state and district curricula and assessments aligned with state standards, including college and career readiness standards.
Monitor and ensure high-quality instructional practices among teachers and staff that improve student performance.
Monitor multiple forms of student data to develop instructional and intervention decisions to maximize student achievement.
Promote the use of technology in teaching/learning process.
Provide clear expectations of staff performance and conduct rigorous evaluations of all staff using multiple data sources. This includes observation of employee performance, recording observations, and conducting evaluation conferences with staff.
Assist with interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff members.
Define expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with the public.
Confer with subordinates regarding their professional growth. Work with them to develop and accomplish improvement goals.
Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.
Establish, reinforce, and monitor clear expectations for adult, staff, and student conduct, including social and emotional supports. Recognize excellence and achievement.
Create a safe school environment that ensures the social, emotional, and physical well-being of staff and students. Ensure the effective and quick resolution of conflicts.
Communicate effectively with students and staff.
Help Building Principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to maintain and records to track progress on performance objectives.
Supervise operations in principal’s absence.
Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher and substitute assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
Supervise reporting and monitoring of student attendance.
Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipts for materials.
Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
Coordinate transportation, cafeteria, and other support services.
Comply with federal and state laws and board policy.
Assist with completion of federal, state, or local reports as assigned.
Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods.
Help to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior. (Examples: PBIS and Restorative Discipline principles)
Apply a variety of student discipline techniques to meet the behavioral and academic needs of individual students.
Work with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system driven by the principles of PBIS that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment.
Articulate the school’s mission to community and solicit its support in realizing mission.
Performs any other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent or Designee

Performs any and all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, his/her designee, or the employee’s direct supervisor or his/her designee
KNOWLEDGE OF: Board policies and procedures, appropriate school law, requirements of the Ohio Department of Education, effective management procedures, required local, state and federal reports, supervision, teaching techniques and methods, instructional curricula, personnel system requirements and procedures, student discipline code, public relations, effective conferencing techniques.
ABILITY TO: Interpret and abide by policies, procedures, regulations and strategic values, compile and prepare required reports, evaluate teaching techniques and methods, evaluate curricula and make appropriate recommendations, supervise and evaluate personnel, communicate effectively, discipline, handle student grievance.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:
OCCASIONAL: Exposure to severe weather, traffic, blood, bodily fluids and tissue, light lifting (up to 50 pounds), travel to remote sites, attend functions and perform duties outside normal working hours. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
PERIODIC: Exposure to loud noise, irritating and hazardous chemicals, fumes, and unruly children and adults.
FREQUENT: Prolonged periods of standing and lifting (10-20 pounds) of supplies and materials. Bending, stooping and reaching for items. Follow all Board safety rules and procedures. Participate in the school safety training when requested.

May be assigned to any position for which the employee is licensed/certified.
