    Job Description

    Job Title: Daycare Director
    Supervisor: Superintendent
    Date: 4/1/2025
    FLSA Status: Exempt
    Compensation Range: $35,568-$45,000/annually
     
    QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:          
    1. High school diploma or equivalent.
    2. CPR and First Aid certified.
    3. Food service sanitation certified.
    4. Minimum of twenty-one years of age.
    5. Clear criminal background check and fingerprinting.
    6. Physical examination demonstrating freedom from communicable disease including a TB test and immunization documentation.
    7. Three letters of reference.
    8. DCFS paperwork on file.
    9. Registered with Gateways to Opportunity.
    10. Level 1 or higher Illinois Director Credential.
    11. Minimum of an associate degree in child development or early childhood education, or the equivalent (defined as 64 semester hours in any discipline with a minimum of 21 semester hours of college credit in child development, early childhood education or early childhood special education) and either a Gateways to Opportunity Level I Illinois Director Credential (see 89 Ill. Adm. Code 50.720(b) and http://www.ilgateways.com/en/illinois-directorcredential-idc) or 3 semester hours of college credit or 3 points of credential approved training in administration, leadership or management.
    12. 6 or more clock hours of training on caring for children with disabilities within 36 months of hire
     
    JOB GOAL:  To contribute in a positive manner to each child’s physical, emotional, intellectual, personal, and social development while the child is under the care and custody of the day care program.  To maintain the child care program’s reputation and high standards of quality. 
     
    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Is responsible for the care and guidance of children in his / her care.
    2. Works within the annual budget.
    3. Requisitions supplies and equipment.
    4. Develops snack and lunch menus.
    5. Orders and / or shops for food supplies.
    6. Is responsible for center enrollment and registration.
    7. Is responsible for the development and supervision of the curriculum focusing on the Illinois Early Learning Standards and Creative Curriculum.
    8. Is responsible for arranging and participating in parent / teacher conferences as needed.
    9. Makes referrals to other service agencies for individuals in need of assistance.
    10. Keeps accurate client accounts and keeps the accounts up to date.
    11. Makes weekly financial deposits.
    12. Is responsible for submitting monthly attendance documents for state subsidized clients.
    13. Is responsible for keeping daily attendance.
    14. Conducts monthly staff meetings.
    15. Conducts yearly staff evaluations.
    16. Schedules day care personnel and arranges for substitute workers.
    17. Sees that personnel and client files meet DCFS regulations.
    18. Respects and maintains the confidentiality of personnel and student files.
    19. Is responsible for parent / center communications. (Monthly newsletter, weekly take home letter, daily notes, etc.)
    20. Completes paperwork requirements for DCFS, public health dept., state fire marshal, ISBE, and the local school district.
    21. Plans field trips.
    22. Is responsible for staff orientation and in-service training.
    23. Is responsible for the development and maintenance of the center handbook, staff handbook, risk management plan, and other required forms.
    24. Is responsible for maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
    25. Conducts and keeps records of monthly fire drills and tornado drills (twice a year).
    26. Maintains certification in CPR, first aid, and food service sanitation.
    27. Achieves a minimum of 20 hours of in-service training every year.
    28. Assumes such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the elementary principal, superintendent, or school board.
    29. Pursues other avenues of funding (grants, etc.).
    30. Participates in professional organizations (NAEYC, Directors’ Dialogue, ECC, etc.).
    31. Keeps up to date on changes in state licensing standards / QRS standards.
    32. Visits the Consumer Product Safety Commission website on a monthly basis to check for recalled products.  Evaluates supplies, materials, and equipment for possible hazards.
    33. Maintains the daycare webpage on the school district website.
    34. Notifies DCFS licensing representative of urgent issues (severe injury of child, center closed for unusual circumstances, heat/AC/electrical/plumbing issues, etc.)
    35. Reports communicable diseases to the county health department.
    36. Arranges for yearly hearing and vision tests for all preschool age students and keeps these records on file.
    37. Keeps up to date and maintains ExceleRate Illinois requirements.
    38. Participates in center events/trainings that may be held outside normal working hours.
    39. Prepares activities for family events.
    40. Pursues solutions for children’s behavior issues.
    41. Responsible for daily communication with parents/legal guardians.
    42. Prepares for and participates in Quality Rating Assessments.
    43. Is responsible for interviewing and hiring of staff.
