Title: Substitute Instructional Assistant
Job Goal: Assist the teacher and/or student(s) with instructional and non-instructional activities in order for them to function effectively and efficiently in the absence of the
regular instructional assistant.
Location: All Schools
General Responsibilities:
- Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
- Assist the teacher with non-instructional classroom duties as appropriate.
- Help prepare and distribute lesson materials, as appropriate.
- Instruct students under the teacher's supervision.
- Keep student materials organized.
- Assist with supervision of students on the playground.
- Assist with preparing and maintaining student records when requested.
- Assist with escorting students.
- Accompany students to special area classes as needed.
- Demonstrate cooperation, flexibility, and willingness to contribute as a productive team member.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of his/her work with children and staff.
- Provide appropriate supervisory duties as assigned.
- Perform other appropriate tasks as assigned by the building administrator or administrator's designee.
- May need to assist with toilet, feeding, and other grooming tasks when necessary.
Qualifications:
High school diploma required. College coursework preferred.
Paraprofessional certificate through Illinois State Board of Education
Organized and punctual.
Able to interact effectively with students individually or in small groups.
Able to lift and/or carry elementary-aged child.
Demonstrates ability to work well with others.
Terms of Employment:
Per diem per need of the district, all rates currently established by the Board. The current on-call pay rate for substitute instructional assistants is $16/hour. No guarantee of employment is expressed or implied.
