POSITION SUMMARY:
The Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing comprehensive athletic training services to student-athletes. This includes injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation, as well as managing return-to-play decisions in collaboration with physicians, coaches, athletes, and parents. The Athletic Trainer ensures that athletes participate only when medically cleared and coordinates with relevant stakeholders to maintain a safe and healthy athletic environment.
QUALIFICATION - EXPERIENCE - KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of injury prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation programs
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Preferred: Experience in staff supervision or leadership roles, coaching, or teaching experience
BOC Certified
Licensed and/or registered per state regulation for the work location
CPR Certification
First Aid Certification
Valid Driver’s License
ATHLETIC TRAINING SERVICES:
The Athletic Trainer is responsible for the management and provision of care for injuries sustained by physically active individuals, as directed by a licensed physician. Responsibilities include:
Emergency care and injury prevention programs
Development and application of injury prevention devices for athletes
Assessment, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries
Use of therapeutic modalities such as heat, cold, mechanical stimulation, hydrotherapy, and therapeutic exercises to aid in recovery and reconditioning
Ensuring all practices comply with state athletic training laws and regulations
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality in all interactions.
Provide athletic training services for all home athletic contests and other contests as assigned by the athletic director
Maintain communication with athletes, parents, coaches, and physicians regarding injury status, treatment plans, and return-to-play decisions.
Prevent, evaluate, and treat athletic injuries through rehabilitation programs and protective measures.
Develop conditioning and injury prevention programs for athletes in collaboration with coaches.
Maintain accurate injury records, treatment logs, and reports for insurance claims and medical documentation.
Manage and track athletic training equipment and supplies, ensuring proper inventory levels for medical kits, AEDs, braces, and other necessary tools.
Supervise and mentor student athletic trainers, providing guidance on injury care and prevention.
Implement weigh certification processes for wrestling athletes and coordinate testing or other required certifications to comply with safety standards and regulations
Ensure the athletic training room is clean, organized, and fully equipped to handle the needs of athletes.
Ensure compliance with extreme weather protocols, such as heat-related illness prevention and monitoring.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
Assist coaches and administrators with compliance-related matters and injury prevention initiatives.
Act as a liaison between physicians and coaches to ensure that medical instructions are communicated and followed properly.
Attend department meetings, workshops, and professional development seminars to stay current with industry best practices and certifications.
Provide medical consultation and assistance to faculty and staff when appropriate.
Support and serve as a backup to other athletic department members, as needed.
Assist with inventory management and supply orders, including budgeting for necessary equipment and resources for the athletic training program.
Participate in yearly performance reviews and provide feedback on the athletic training program.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with athletes, coaches, parents, and medical professionals.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple demands, and work independently.
Knowledge and use of athletic training software and district technology to maintain accurate records.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and maintain positive working relationships.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when managing medical records and inventory.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional discretion.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and push/pull the same weight.
Frequent walking, standing, bending, and stooping required.
Ability to assist with the movement of athletic equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The Athletic Trainer will work in various environments, including athletic fields, gyms, and locker rooms. The role involves significant walking and standing. Travel to away games and regular weekend hours may be required.
There will be an annual evaluation for this position.
